OK Team Spence! I know y'all want Thurman, but you're doing too much! Let the guy have his tune-up, and then call him out! If he chooses a Porter mandatory over a Spence Jr. unification, then he's a duck! No one wants to see Thurman vs. Porter 2! Until then, look for the next fight! Speaking of which, what's the deal between Ocampo and Ponomarev? Is Ponomarev ready to MAN UP?

Spence was Brook mandatory, Brook hasn’t fought anyone at 147 apart from Porter 2 years prior. Thurman is understand his hesitation, James Degale had surgery on his hands or shoulder and came back and lost his title to Traux. You got to ease yourself back in to it after surgery.

I get that you shouldnt rush back after injury for such an important fight, but 2019?

He's fit enough to fight a decent opponent in April, then he could have another tune up in September, and still have time to fight Spence in 2018.

When did 3 fights a year become such a big deal? Used to be the norm even in my relatively short time as a hardcore fan.

He had surgery in April 17, you dont need 2 years to recover from surgery ffs.

Unfortunately the IBF rankings are complete ****e, as usual, so if Spence isnt unifying, then he will be fighting crap opponents.

Doubt Arum would follow through on allowing Crawford to mix with Al's boys (assuming he beat Horn), but that could be option. Dont see it happening yet myself.

Trust me I want this fight now lol, but got to put myself in Thurman position, you have a guy who can beat you and he is better or worse on the same level as you. Speaking from my fighting experience then I would want to make sure am back from that surgery and healthy before fighting someone like that.

Thurman’s getting a pass because of two overblown wins. Wins that are overblown because today’s boxing fans are belt crazy. And they overrate the quality of a win based on how entertaining the fight was.

Thurman-Porter was a very entertaining fight. But was it really that big a win for Keith? Not really. He arguably lost. And he was basically fighting Porter coming off a loss. Shawn wasn’t even competitive against Kell Brook. And a couple tune-up wins (yes, Broner was a tune-up) didn’t erase what happen against Brook.

And the Garcia win was more overblown than that. If you take away the belts, Thurman-Garcia was basically a top two or three welterweight fighting a fringe contender. Danny hasn’t done anything at welterweight. He arguably lost to Peterson in what was basically a fight between top jr welterweights fought at a 143 catchweight. He beat a washed up Malignaggi. And beat a shot to hell Guerrero for a vacant belt. And even thought Danny had a lot of credentials as the jr welterweight champ moving up. A lot of that momentum was lost when he arguably lost to Herrera.

At the end of the day, Thurman has been a solid top welterweight. But even today, he’s done nothing to warrant him getting a pass on trying to put off a Spence class. He’s basically a paper champion. One belt he won vacant. And the other he won from a guy that’s done nothing in the division. And his best win is arguably a loss. And that’s against a guy that was soundly beaten by the champion that Spence destroyed. Thurman needs Spence to legitimize himself. Not the other way around. And Thurman seems to believe the former.

Sure, but does he need 2 years to recover from surgery? Thats a hell of a long time. A lot longer than you see in any other sport.

If you arent ok after a year and a half, which it would be around September time, then maybe you will never be right again.

Who cares about mandatories. They could strip every belt Thurman has. If he beats Spence, he doesn’t need a belt anymore.
