He's American. He's black. He's affiliated with the two best black American boxers of all time, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Adrien Broner, and the best businessman of any nationality and any race of all time, Al Haymon. He's never fought a top opponent, and he's benefited from multiple controversial decisions all somehow going his way. He happens to be around the division with potentially both the top Mexican fighter, and top white fighter, in the sport, and appears to be the only black American "threat" to them around those weight classes except for Tank Davis, who was also receiving tons and tons of hype until he looked like **** in his last fight while Loma looked awesome vs someone better than him and a certain fanbase realized he wasnt the one to take him out.

So, I can see why a certain fanbase liked Easter, or wanted to like him, hoped he would be the one. But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they just liked his length or something. But I just don't see a lot of skill. He actually looks a lot like a poor man's Lamont Peterson in some ways, and Peterson is not elite either, so that's not the best thing either.

Are you dense? Peterson never was a one punch KO guy and all of a sudden he can't crack an egg because he didn't hurt Spence? He didn't land enough punches! Spence was too sharp, too strong, too skilled. Lamont was in a shell all night and the punches he did land were few and far between. It's got nothing to do with his punching power and everything to do with not being able to land enough punches because he knew what was coming back. Power doesn't automatically equal success. You can have power all day but if you can't land it it's a weakness not a strength. A recent example of this is Lemieux vs Saunders. Lemieux has power but was too slow and predictable to land anything.

And you're criticizing him for that? He was getting demolished. There was no need for the fight to continue. I guess you're going to say Peterson wasn't tough enough or didn't have enough heart right?
Fans like yourself make me sick. You go get in the ring and take that kind of beating and then come back and say how tough you are.

I second that. The average fan is a moron who doesn't understand boxing, could never imagine taking that much punishment and has a hissy fit when someone isn't knocked out cold and taken out on a stretcher. New York City sports fans are a pathetic bunch. They piss and moan when their hockey team doesn't dominate as well. Shame on the fans who booed a necessary stoppage in a non-contest.

you think i didn't know peterson couldn't punch? i was thinking (and i think i posted) that this fight would be interesting if peterson could punch. but he can't. and yes, he did land big punches, the thing is, like is been said, peterson can't crack. don't know why are you so defensive about my post, honestly.

I like Porter but he's WAY too one dimensional to beat Spence. His only chance would be a lucky punch. Porter would try to bull his way in and Spence would crack him with that ramrod jab all night and if Porter tried to walk through it, Spence would just take a half step back and tag his ass all night while he's trying to maul and use his head and elbows.

Yep, me too. Problem is he is an avoided and feared fighter in his division who wants to unify and get the other big names in the ring. Hopefully, if that doesn't happen next, he fights somebody just to stay busy. I'm sure he doesn't want to box against opponents who aren't highly ranked or have a chance in hell to beat him but he may have to do so until Thurman or the winner of Crawford/Horn are mandated to fight him. Even then it may not happen because A: Thurman obviously doesn't want the fight and B: When Crawford beats Horn, the politics of boxing may prevent the match up.
I sure hope I'm wrong about that, otherwise, it will be a disappointing year for Spence.

Hell no. If no top WW fight, Spence could move to JMW and win a title or two there. Why in god's name would he need to move to MW? That's just ****** at this point.

We could see Spence - Crawford in the future , but at 154.
Dunno bout that. Crawford just moved up to 147. I don't see him moving up again any time soon unless he can't get any big fights at WW.

Yeah but that doesn't mean his bum rush style is going to land him any big punches against Spence. Also, lazy ass ring clown Broner dropped him late so Spence can definitely do major damage.
