Comments Thread For: Jessie Vargas Feels He Has a Good Shot To Land Keith Thurman

The welterweight titles held by Keith Thurman are in the crosshairs of Jessie Vargas, who hopes to secure the opportunity in March or April, and feels very confident that he would have a good chance to beat him. Thurman, the undefeated 147-pound champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Association (WBA), is close to returning to the ring and Vargas is reportedly a frontrunner to land that fight.

The fact that Thurman isn't coming out saying he wants Spence next just shows that he's poosy. I could see this fight being made for sure.

        WAR VARGAS!!!!

Keith Thurman is good in my book, but he hails from Clearwater, FL. I'll just leave it there.

Stfu dude. When Pacquiao was on top, you ever hear him calling anyone out? What about Floyd? When you're the top dog, you relax and stop calling people out; you're the one they're calling out. Thurman called out every single fighter above him before he was top dog, now he's clearly the top dog so he doesn't need to anymore.

Did you ever hear pacquiao say that he specifically didnt want to fight someone and make all kinds of excuses to avoid fight? Thurman went from saying he'll fight anyone anytime and "I have an O and im not afraid to let it go" to now giving a million and one reasons he cant fight spence this year. I give Thurman more credit than most Pbc fighter because he fought Porter and Garcia but ive realized over the years that most Pbc fighters stick with Pbc because they enjoy cherry picking and are ok with mediocry. Pacquiao would say its up to my promoter because he actually had a promoter who would get him the best fights so he didnt have to call people out. Thurman abd the rest of Pbc dont have a promoter telling them who to fight, so if he really wanted to fight Spence he would call him out and put some pressure on him like Spence is pretty much doing to him. Spence is a real fighter he seems like he wants to achieve greatness and fight on Ppv. Hed be much better off going with Top Rank

Vargas is actually a decent opponent for Thurmans first fight back from an injury. Hes top 10 at 147 although closer to 10 than 1, but still better than someone like Brandon Rios who is barely top 25. My problem with Thurman is him saying he wont fight Spence this year. Assuming he gets past Vargas injury free why cant they make it for the fall? If hes trying to marinate it hes going to lose fans in the process abd anything can happen like a permanent injury that could permanently derail the fight. It would probably be a ppv fight too so its not like he wouldnt make mad money. There will never be a shortage of good fights to make after he fights Spence, but the Spence fight and the payday that comes along with it might not always be there.

This show how clueless you are about the boxing world. PBC usually fight each other, 1, because the fights are obviously easier to make, 2, and most importantly, because PBC get their fighters big paydays. Thurman-garcia each guy got 2 mils for that fight. Loma-Rigo, which was arguably top rank most hyped fight of 2017, Rigo only got $400k!! What fighter wants to fight for half the money their worth. Once GBP and TR start offering decent paydays, you'll see PBC fighters fight them more often.

BTW, you argue Spence would he better of signing with TR...well, he's a free agent. Why do you think he hasn't signed with TR or any other promotion company? Why you think Mikey and chavezJr fought so hard to break free from TR? Why you think then they all finally break free from their promotion company, they all end up with Haymon? Connect the dots..

Thurman is not scared of Spence anymore than Spence is scared of Thurman.
Not sure what the rush is.

Both are on a collision course as long as they keep winning and looking impressive in the process.
There is no getting around it.

In the meantime Spence needs to keep handling his business, so when the time comes around both can maximize their $$$$ which is what this game ( called PRIZE fighting ) is all about!!!

And by the way Thurman is far from a top dog. It remains to be seen who is Top Dog at 147. Pacquiao and Floyd were the biggest ppv stars in history so of course people called them out to try to get those big paydays. Just like people starting calling out Mcgregor when they saw how well his boxing ppv fight did. I would argue that Spence is pretty close to Thurman in terms of fanbase and also in terms of who people view as the top dog at 147 and you dont see Spence giving excuses why the fight wont happen, he says he wants to fight Thurman every time hes asked and even called out Thurman for the excuses. As of now Thurman is not some huge attraction, hes not even fighting on ppv yet so he should still be hungry. Thats the problem with these Pbc fighters they are not hungry and are content cherry picking and stagnating. Loma and Crawford on the other hand keep getting bigger and will be fighting on Ppv by next year
