Comments Thread For: Barrera To Duva: I Didn't Reject Kovalev, You Offered 100K Less

The Main Events deal seems to be expiring or almost expired; if Barrera beats Bivol (a fighter that no one really knows how good he is yet), he stands with the full WBA light heavyweight championship and Duva better put some respect on his name.
If she keeps with the bull****, Barrera has places to go (GYM/Haymon currently control two other belts at the weight, so getting a call from Al Haymon wouldn't be unheard of)

Because latest fact is that Ward’s body is too broken for elite boxing, Ward is retired, and Kovalev is world champ...

Just like Rigo refusing 500k to fight Loma at 126 in 2015, well now he fought at 130 for 400k. Too bad, should have taken the offer when it was on the table...

Of course it's less now, because Kovalev is now the champion and he can now **** you. Despite the offer, it's still more than he's getting against Bivol and Kovalev is a more established name that would raise Barrera's profile.
If he loses to Bivol, he's not getting a fight with Kovalev ever again.

He loses the fight, and Duva doesn't pay him anyway (he fights well, and there's no doubt in my mind that Haymon calls his camp with an opportunity to rebuild).
Rigondeax was a "35 year old" man fighting at 122lbs; when he was physically peaked, he was likely a 118lb fighter who could make 115lb if need be. Lomachenko is peaking as a 130lb fighter who could make 126lbs if he absolutely had to.
Rigo, after seeing the setup of Lomachenko not giving him even 124lbs or a rehydration clause, walked and looked for other opportunities. Blitzed ****ens, got caught in the Moises Flores nonsense, finally got the fight and had some flukiness muddle his win, and started to really see his window closing.
Lomachenko fight gets put back on the table, and Rigondeax takes the opportunity (with seemingly nothing else to weigh against it); fight happens, Rigo shows up near 130, Lomachenko shows up near 140, and things go about as some rooting for Rigo dreaded (skills are the same, but Lomachenko's size, activity, and not walking onto anything, nullifies Rigo's game).
Once there was no concession even considered for the size difference, Rigo was screwed either way; by passing on the original offer, Rigo got a chance to impress against ****ens, impress against Flores, and try to build something. Things didn't work out the way he wanted, but that's the risk you take.

As for Barrera, yeah he’s trying his luck. If he wins the Bivol fight, he will have a belt and leverage for a payday. If he loses, it takes him back a fair amount in his career.
