He was bad for boxing also. Some of the most controversial decisions happened around Don King promoted events. He brought a lot of negative attention on the sport with his corruption and the way he treated his fighters. Boxing was more popular but crooked promoters like King squandered it away.
Don't get me wrong, he wasn't the only one. He was just the face of the negativity.Comment

There were plenty of bad decisions before Don King and there have been plenty of bad decisions since. Doesn't change the fact that Don delivered fans more **** for their buck than any other promoter.
At least he was bringing attention. Boxing was far more in the public eye thanks to Don than it is now.He brought a lot of negative attention on the sportComment

Lol, why am I not surprised your steadily swinging off Don King's nutts like George of the jungle??
Quit acting like your someone or you know anything about boxing!
You don't know nothing about boxing!
Just go to sleep already!Comment

Why am I not surprised that you're hurling childish insults instead of addressing my points like an intelligent adult?
Know enough to know that Don ruled with an iron fist for decades and boxing was extremely popular during that time. Fans got stacked cards constantly. Boxers felt short changed, but fans got great shows.Quit acting like your someone or you know anything about boxing!Comment

I don't see his basis for saying this. Don King had plenty of top fighters across various weight classes, if heavyweight being in a state of decline for years was due to him, why would it not affect the other weights that have been thriving with plenty of talented fighters?Comment

From the '80s to the '90s King monopolized the best fighters by forcing representation. Using a contractual clause, anybody who wanted to challenge a boxer belonging to King had to agree to be promoted by King in the future (should he win). Those that refuses to sign their future over found it difficult to get fights, especially title bouts. Sounds like a monoply?
Last sentence agree with. I think Cooney is stuck in his memories and get see things clearly.
Cooney was never the brightest bulb in the box.Comment

No that's false. There's nothing inherently immoral about boxing. Only those within it that act without a sense of morality and those around them willing to ignore or even excuse it.
The truth is that Don King was a malevolent force in boxing for decades and he bears some of the responsibility for its loss in popularity.Comment

Back in the days he wouldn't be a champ. 39 fights? Lennox has 44 and look at his resume... and his skills etcEveryone knows Don King was bad for boxing. However, there are plenty of reasons boxing has been in decline, especially at the HW division. NFL and basketball had way more superstars so naturally athletes gravitated to those sports. Wilder would have been a much bigger star back in the days than he is now. Whether he was with Don King or not.Comment
