GGG was scared of Ward, but I don't think I've ever seen a fighter make lamer excuses than Shane did to justify avoiding prime Floyd. This dude said he had a toothache. "I need to spend time with my family"

Golovkin was mandatory challenger to the biggest cash cow in boxing. And he chose to stay in his own division and pursue that fight, instead of moving up 1, possibly 2 divisions, to fight an awkward, spoiling opponent, 20lbs heavier than him, for peanuts.

That's not scared ... that's just basic common sense!

GGG did avoid Ward tho. Very High risk/low reward fight. Ward is only known among hardcore fans, is much bigger & is a P4P #1 class fighter. Canelo, Cotto, Froch, JCC Jr all made way more sense financially
