2017 was the best year for boxing in a very long time. Both in terms of competitive fights, and interest drawn. There were 3 PPVs that did over 1M buys, more than the UFC had, you had stars emerge, upsets etc.

The issue now is that 2018 has to live up to those expectations.

People who cried "boxing is dead" were those comparing the times Floyd was fighting Joes like Guerrero for 700k PPV to PPVs and Pacquiao doing similar numbers all due to the "biggest Floyd threat" to other fights after the Floyd era. Floyd came back to show us it was far from dead, just fighters that are not as popular as he was including Canelo.

If Floyd came back today to fight Garcia, I can guarantee atleast 700k PPV again minimum.

Canelo still has time to generate interest with the casuals like Floyd did and start selling 700k whenever he fights. Joshua is another hot ticket but still not close to floyd status.

Funny people were screaming " just 700k PPV sold?" back when it was Floyd. Smh! Now 300k PPV by Canelo seems like a big deal. Yes, with Floyd's big guarantees he demanded, it was easy to laugh at 700k PPV and call it a failure but Floyd could demand those huge guarantees because of the money he brings.

I had to lol when the article said may pac was a one sided fight. It was actually pretty close although Floyd probably deserved the win. Pac did pretty good considering he had a torn rotator cuff.

But they left out the most important thing that happened this year. Top Rank leaving Hbo and signing exclusively with Espn. That is huge news. Pbc may be on life support but boxing isnt

Btw its been reported that Pbc time buys were supposed to be until the end of 2017. What is going on with Pbc getting a network deal? Looks like they might just have Showtime and possibly Fs1 to work with although they havent announced any deal. Im glad im not one of the investors who lost 9/10 of my money in those funds that funded Pbc

Absolutely!! Think what you will of ESPN playing favorites, but it is the name in sports coverage and reaches more homes than any other outlet. Top Rank has gotten huge ratings on ESPN.

By the way, even if PBC dies out, boxing fans owe Mr. Heyman a thank-you for getting Boxing back on free tv. PBC opened that door, Golden Boy and Top Rank walked through it.

2017 had two low moments: The Canelo- Chavez JR turd and the Loma-Rigo flop in which both those fights were hyped up for only one guy to show any effort. Otherwise- what an amazing year.

Actually Top Rank was on Espn for 16 years from 80-96. Top Rank has always been an innovator and made the move to Hbo because they paid big money. Then when they cut their boxing budget the Bobfather goes back to Espn and innovates yet again. Didnt even have to do a time buy. Haymon squandered a billion dollars and Pbc is on its last legs and people call him a mastermind lol
