Why Floyd envies Lomachenko

Well amateurs is cool and all, but I think most people put a much heavier emphasis on pro success. I know I do.

What is funny though, is how the haters can't even leave it at that - they try to say that Loma's amateur record is fake.

Of course, watching a guy turn pro, win multiple belts within his first ten fights and enter the top 10 P4P lists, and be Ring magazine fighter of the year all so quickly does nothing to suggest that his amateur record is inaccurate.

A lot of people want to hate on Loma, or discredit him. It is like Loma's excellence is a threat to their personal favourite boxers, or the reputation of legacy of their favourite boxers, so they feel a need to tear Loma down.

Yeah not doubting his skill, 9 times out of 10 hed have beaten todorov but when the pressure was on and the nation was behind him, he couldn't do it. That's just the truth of it.

tank davis is more popular? hes been fighting on undercards his entire career how can you make that claim? the only headliner he was in was when he fought on the other guys home turf. loma makes much more than him but ok. hes being overpaid because he cant even headline so i dont know why they are overpaying him to fight bums. the floyd way i suppose.

The two are related, but are not the same thing. Floyd is rich beyond what guys like Robinson could ever dream of, yet isn't as good as SRR. He is way richer that RJJ, but wasn't as good as him either.

I don't think Floyd is under any illusions that Loma will earn more money than him. The threat he feels isn't about who will be richer, but who will be known as the better fighter. You don't get to the level that FMJ did without feeling an instinctual response to a challenge. Sure, he feels challenged. It will only get worse as Loma goes on to be clearly the best fighter of his era, as Floyd was the best fighter of his era.

Hopefully he can be secure in himself enough to just laugh at the comparisons and enjoy the current generation of stars.
