At that point, the WBC went out and crowned another mandatory, which takes time. They don't rush mandatories at all costs like the IBF does.

Stevenson has paid his mandatory to step aside to give his mandatory some time to build his profile. The wins over Bute and Pascal have helped make Stevenson-Alvarez a more attractive fight in Canada. What would have been the point of rushing into the Alvarez fight before it was worth anything?
