Next year, Canelo is considering a full jump to the middleweight division. His handlers have recently stated that he might test the middleweight waters by fighting at a catch-weight of 158-pounds.

If the two champions are victorious, then Alvarez had suggested that he will share the ring with Golovkin, but only at a 155lbs catchweight, 4lbs below the middleweight limit.

When asked by Sky Sports if he would meet 'Canelo' at another weight, Golovkin said: "No
    ".

Every single boxing organisation says that above 154 to 160 is MW.
      Every.single.one

      correct

and anything above 154 to 155, is a catchweight

Correct and when the limit is 155 it becomes a catchweight.

155 or 157 are catchweight bouts fought within the MW division - how else do you think the MW title was on the line when Cotto fought Canelo or Hopkins fought Oscar?

Don't bother replying, man. I have no interest in being drawn into this trash-heap of a thread. Your comment just happened to catch my eye and I thought I might be able to add clarity.

            it was an either/or situation

either..... back up your big mouth, and negotiate with Canelo like you promised, and like you were willing to do with Rosado..... or, kick rocks

            they elected to kick rocks

the fight would not have happened unless Canelo had agreed to fight B1tchkin on his terms..... Golovkin could easily have missed out on that fight, just like he missed Cotto and Ward

            which begs the question.....

why did Golovkin totally refuse to negotiate on weight with SUPERSTARS..... despite the fact that he was willing to negotiate on weight with NO-HOPER'S?

Again .. weight divisions are not defined by "functional difference". Like the borders between countries, they are defined by rules and regulations, nothing more.

Imagine if Canelo went to the Mexico/US border and stepped across it. A border officer sees him and says, "Hey .. welcome to America champ, now I need to check your visa please."

And Canelo says, "Welcome to America? What are you talking about? I only took one step .. and there's no functional difference between the ground I'm standing on now and the ground I was standing on before. So far as I'm concerned, I'm still on Mexican soil, and you are in my country, senor."

              See what I mean?

              Now this:

"FACT: the total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the OFFICIAL weigh-in..... and 155 =/= 160"

That's wrong mate. Functional muscle mass is 70% water. When fighters dry out to make weight, they deplete and dehydrate their muscles and organs.

Dehydrated muscle mass is not fully functional muscle mass, and a young fighter in his 20s, like Canelo, will be able to rehydrate and restore his dehydrated muscles and organs to full functionality faster and more efficiently than a fighter in his 30s, like Golovkin.

So there you go. No insults, just an explanation of why people like me are objecting to your stance on weight divisions and catchweights, and what those objections are based on.

kid..... why did Golovkin totally refuse to negotiate on weight with SUPERSTARS..... despite the fact that he was willing to negotiate on weight with NO-HOPER'S?

and you totally missed the point about weight

FACT: the total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the OFFICIAL weigh-in..... meaning, that 155 < 160

Golovkin was unable to have an advantage, so he walked

FACT: one JMW, fighting another JMW, at 155..... is not a middleweight bout

when you dumb fk's heard all of that "anyone from 154-168" nonsense..... who did YOU think he wanted to fight?..... if not Cotto Canelo Ward, then who..... Rosado? lol
why did Golovkin totally refuse to negotiate on weight with SUPERSTARS..... despite the fact that he was willing to negotiate on weight with NO-HOPER'S?
why did Golovkin say this..... " middleweight is 160 " ?
why did Golovkin say this about 159lb Kell Brook..... "he is not a middleweight. He just isn't"?
explain the FUNCTIONAL difference between 153.9 and 154.1.....

FACT: refusing to fight opponent-A at 155, but then offering to fight opponent-B at 154..... is a flat out duck of opponent-A
