Any catchweight fight is also fought within one or other of the divisional limits - assuming of course that it has been sanctioned by one of the recognised sanctioning bodies. It's not an either/or situation.
155 or 157 are catchweight bouts fought within the MW division - how else do you think the MW title was on the line when Cotto fought Canelo or Hopkins fought Oscar?
Don't bother replying, man. I have no interest in being drawn into this trash-heap of a thread. Your comment just happened to catch my eye and I thought I might be able to add clarity.
you guys are actually fk'ing yourselves..... you are killing yourselves over a silly technicality that made NO DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER to a JMW's ability to perform against genuine middleweight opponents..... AND YOU KNOW IT
FACT: the total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the OFFICIAL weigh-in..... and 155 =/= 160
Don't you get it that what you dismiss as a silly technicality is the very essence of the weight divisions of boxing?
Again .. weight divisions are not defined by "functional difference". Like the borders between countries, they are defined by rules and regulations, nothing more.
Imagine if Canelo went to the Mexico/US border and stepped across it. A border officer sees him and says, "Hey .. welcome to America champ, now I need to check your visa please."
And Canelo says, "Welcome to America? What are you talking about? I only took one step .. and there's no functional difference between the ground I'm standing on now and the ground I was standing on before. So far as I'm concerned, I'm still on Mexican soil, and you are in my country, senor."
See what I mean?
Now this:
"FACT: the total amount of functional muscle-mass and conditioning that you can take into a fight is determined at the OFFICIAL weigh-in..... and 155 =/= 160"
That's wrong mate. Functional muscle mass is 70% water. When fighters dry out to make weight, they deplete and dehydrate their muscles and organs.
Dehydrated muscle mass is not fully functional muscle mass, and a young fighter in his 20s, like Canelo, will be able to rehydrate and restore his dehydrated muscles and organs to full functionality faster and more efficiently than a fighter in his 30s, like Golovkin.
So there you go. No insults, just an explanation of why people like me are objecting to your stance on weight divisions and catchweights, and what those objections are based on.
Wrong. If those numbers are limits then it's not middleweight it becomes catchweight. For example a limit of 155 is a catchweight.
Dude, it's one thing for aboutfkntime to sit here and spew his nonsense. We dont expect any more from him than that. Please don't stoop to his level of ******ity.
The WBC has already addressed this matter. Every contest, every fight, is considered to be in one of the weight classes. You can't just dismiss a weight, calling it catchweight.
Every fight is scheduled to a certain weight category . For a fight to be recognized under such weigh category both boxers must make the weight within the limit of the division in the official weigh in ceremony.
Catch weight – This term is used for specific agreements reached by the 2 fighters and is an exclusive commercial contract which has nothing to do with the regulations of boxing.

Welcome to the 5th dimension, buddy! Remember to pick your sanity up on the way out!
I was hoping you would come back with something like that, because it gives us a chance to clear this foolery up ... are you saying that I can't be in a house and in a room at the same time?
