Faster hands, faster feet, more power, higher energy levels and better punch variation. Ward had a left hook and grab and a left jab and grab and then his other best punch was his headbutts and his strategy was to just hold and use an assortment of fouls. Calzaghe had a better jab too and even though his offense was often sloppy and slapped I'll take that over a glorified spoiler who got away with cheating every fight.
