The world works in mysterious ways. At the time Jeff Lacy was basically a Demigod. Anyone in the know was proclaiming him to be the nth coming of several ATG fighters. 99.9% of non-UK fans were certain he was going to crush and expose Joe Calzaghe. Maybe 50% of UK fans thought the same way. For some reason Lacy received more hype in America than say... Terence Crawford, Keith Thurman and Deontay Wilder combined. It was a foregone conclusion that this man was going to crush Calzaghe and then dominate as many divisions as he wanted to. Only, it didn't last too long. Because Smokin' Joe Calzaghe gave him an absolutely bombastic beatdown. Lacy's mental psyche was completely obliterated. Many question if he even has a soul anymore.

Lacy was hyped big time I was surprised and wondered why as I didn't see him as a great puncher or skilled boxer and thought he'd be easy for Calzaghe.

and because calzaghe's resume is horrible so they have to pretend someone is good. lacy was worse than berto in reality.
You damn well know Calzaghe is one of the greatest of all time. Beating a completely shot RJJ, and slapping a 43 year old b-hop to a bs decision completely solidifies that. Incredible resume.

It wasn't so much his opposition more the way he that he had been winning that created his hype (supposedly a mini mike tyson), people expected him to blast out Calzaghe and go on to dominate the division but instead he got played with and the win now gets downplayed. Which is common when boxing fans look back at fighters records a big name on the downward spiral is always looked upon better as a fighter on the crest of a wave that is beaten and never reaches that level again.

Lacy was unproven and calslappy ovverrated and protected. Struggled to win and got dropped by a 43 year old hopkins that says it all

ppl can say whatever they want this was a huge win for joe. go back and read predictions. lacy was the new mike tyson. you can sht on the win all you want because lacy didn't turn out to be great.. but maybe thats because joe didnt just beat him, he ended his career that night. lacy never recovered. that was a brutal systematic destruction.

I'm American, bro. Always seemed to me like American boxers and fans always had a bit of a dismissive reaction to Brit fighters. Remember Mike Tyson saying, "How dare they challenge me with their primitive style of boxing. They are better off dead."
