Andre Ward did cheat against Sergey Kovaev, but why didn't Kovalev also cheat back?

Why are Sergey Kovalev supporters / fans / rooters complaining about Andre Ward cheating / fouling when Kovalev (presumably) could've also fouled in response to even the playing field? Like how Lomachenko did against Rigondeaux. Were there any particular things that were preventing him from fouling back?

My point is. If Ward was fouling Kovalev, Kovalev should've even the playing field by fouling back and then if Kovalev was truly the better boxer, he should've been able to win with the playing field being evened out.

Of course, I'm referring mainly to the rematch because I do believe Kovalev should've won the first bout but ended up not getting the judge's nod.

I gotta be real, it seems like it is the exact same fanbase that simply can not except defeat, yall jump from one fighter to the next and never give credit to the fighter that defeats them.

Same guys criticising Tony Weeks for letting Ward low blow Kovalev to death are the same ones that praised Tony Weeks when he allowed Maiadana to mua thai knee, rugby tackle, consistently rabbit punch, karate chop, and consistently low blow Mayweather in their first fight.

Tony Weeks was such a good ref back then huh? You darn hypocrites!

Kovalev was cheating, he initiated a lot of the holding in the 1st fight as well. There were vids on youtube of Kov's low blows and rabbit punches on youtube, not sure if they've been taken down yet.
