Comments Thread For: Sadam Ali: Trust Me, I Would've Beaten Jessie Vargas Tonight!

NEW YORK Jessie Vargas was among those that criticized Miguel Cotto's choice of opponent for his farewell fight. The fight was offered to Vargas, but the former WBO welterweight champion turned down the opportunity because he didn't want to sign a long-term contract with Golden Boy Promotions, Cotto's promoter. Sadam Ali, who's also promoted by Golden Boy, jumped at the chance to challenge Cotto for the WBO super welterweight title at Madison Square Garden.

I'm happy for Ali, I was at the fight when Vargas knocked him out. He had a huge entourage at the venue, and when he got knocked out, you thought he was the headliner because all his people stormed to the exit pissed leaving the place somewhat desolate.

So when the main event came on, it looked like an undercard.

I like Jesse Vargas but he really is a ****** mother****er if he turned down the Cotto fight cause he didn't wanna sign with Golden Boy promotions.
He's not Errol Spence Jr or even Mikey Garcia to be doing things like that. Does he really think Al Haymon is gonna do more for his career than Golden Boy promotions would have??
He's fighting some bum that has no name recognition in his first fight under Al Haymon. If he wins he'll be used as a crash dummy to keep Errol Spence, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, and Shawn Porter busy. He beats none of the guys I mentioned. He'll be used the same way Robert Guerrero was.
He's a fool for not taking the Cotto fight. That simple!

Ali should rematch Vargas at 154 and defend his title, Ali gets a chance for revenge and Vargas gets a chance to be a three weight champion, good marketable fight, Sadam is all ready becoming known and with his name he can easily get the villain role and become a star

The cotto fight is over rated. Ali will lose to Kell Brook next. So what exactly is this one fight with a old cotto really going to do for Spence, Garcia, Vargas etc....I think the purse was around 600k which Spence and Garcia both will probably make double in there next fight. Cotto is gone the only thing GBP has left is Canelo. It’ll be ****** to sign with gbp just to earn 600-700k for a Cotto fight that no one will care about a year from now. How was Robert Guerrero used? Just because you lose the big fights don’t mean you are being used that’s ******. Guerrero was compensated extremely well and given a broadcasting job. GBP actually used Cotto. They thought they would get a fighter by offering cotto and it back fired. They tried to sign Berchelt the same way but he didn’t sign either.
Just look at Cotto last 2 fights. It’s OBVIOUS there true intentions weren’t to fight a dangerous opponent like Spence or Garcia. Besides a old cotto what else can GBP offer? What happened to Matthyse? He went from one of the most popular fighters making millions to fighting bums for chump change under GBP.

He was getting waxed in that 7th round he needs to calm down. If it wasn't for the massive pebble in the left bicep he is finito.

Like I said, Jesse isn't Errol Spence Jr or Mikey Garcia. I don't blame them for turning down the Cotto fight. They have skills, name recognition, and they are both undefeated. Jesse brings none of that.
But your right. He will get paid handsomely to get his ass kicked every time he fights.
I guess if he's cool with that then he made the right choice.

I doubt Spence would have turned down that Cotto fight anyways though. He would have added that scalp to the resume had it been offered. Jesse Vargas vs Omar Figueroa is more up Jesse's alley if he wants to build some momentum.
