I don't see why this is so hard for some to believe. Before GGG & Canelo fought Cotto and Roach were clear they wanted the winner of that fight. Granted, the timeline was always questionable (making it before the end of the year), but that's how you leave the sport on your own terms. The moment you start giving in and adjusting your timeline for others you lose credibility with the public, family, and even yourself on whether you'll truly retire according to your plan.

For those wondering why Cotto seems more open to fight GGG now vs when he initially won the MW title, I believe the main reason is the Canelo fight. After feeling Canelo's strength and power, and going the distance (even thinking he deserved to win) with him, Cotto probably feels more comfortable fighting some of the bigger guys now. I also believe that after seeing the effect of Canelo's punches on GGG, Cotto feels confident GGG would be bothered by his power as well, especially them body shots.

Canelo could barely handle GGG and they really expect us to believe Cotto wanted it

Cotto can retire however he sees fit but if anyone is to blame for this not being the fight fans wanted to see him go out with, it's golden boy. Real fans should know by now that cotto has NEVER been the type to turn down fights. Golden boy thought that the allure to fight cotto would be able to help them recruit a big name free agent whether it be Mikey garcia, Danny garcia, Spence, Thurman etc, but it backfired. Nobody making the money those guys are making without a promotor won't sign on to get another % of their purse taken away by golden boy. So here we are with sadaam Ali instead.

I like Cotto and respect his career, however GGG beats him to death within 6 rounds and we see Cotto retire in the worst way possible. Not the way this man should go out.

I don't see how a draw prevented the Cotto fight, Golovkin still had his belts and everyone knew he should have won. Pretty lame excuse.

i dont believe cotto would face a top opponent for his last fight, and he doesnt have too! its a fare well fight, a fight where he wants to look good and end his career on a good note.

if he wanted to face a top opponent for his last fight, he would of done so, ggg is not the only top opponent left. there's still plenty of big names out there that could have taken the fight.

I agree, he does not have to go out fighting a top contender. he's proven he's worth already. But If you know anything about the boxing promoting landscape, you'd know when Cotto signed a 2 fight deal with golden boy, they'll do 1 of two things; have cotto fight one of their fighters or use the cotto fight to sign a top fighter who's currently working without a promoter ie: Spence, Thurman, Mikey Garcia. No way Golden boy was going to use the two fights to have cotto fight some other promoter's fighter. So again, if up to Cotto, no doubt in my mind he'd fight the best out there, but he doesn't have the final say; His promoter does.

Canelo landed the power shots and Cotto could not hurt Canelo but boxing I think Cotto's jab and combo's could cause issues with GGG. Canelo didnt hurt Cotto and Canelo nor GGG hurt each other. As 155 plus ive not seen Cotto hurt! Cotto would have to weigh in at 158 and fight night 170+ to hold his own.
GGG's preasure would be the killer for Cotto but if he could pull off a margo2 he could possibly win on points. If he got caught up though it would be nights out in my opinion.

there is a reason why Mr " anyone from 154-168 " totally refused to negotiate on weight with the 153lb superstar

Cotto was a genuine world-class fighter, and he was knocking out the exact same fools that Golovkin was knocking out.....

he was knocking them out at catchweight, sure..... a catchweight which Mr "154-168" would also have been required to make..... backing up all of that 154 talk, and putting it on the line

anybody who accuses Cotto of ducking Golovkin is an utter fool.....

when Golovkin refused to negotiate on weight with the 153lb SUPERSTAR, he removed himself from the Cotto sweepstakes..... and he knew it

that fight was there for him to take

the childish crying from fans who were outraged because Cotto did not obediently fall in line for Golovkin, and make it easy for him..... are the disgraceful element within boxing that most fans hate

When he fought 154 sense. Pac wouldnt fight at 147!!! That was a fix! Yet he drained del down to 144 which he couldn't rehydrate back past 144. Fout hatton at 147. Why no cotto at 147+. True cw king was pac and roided. Oscar that fout Vargas would have dismantled pac. Floyd new better. He knew he was jucing out the ass. You dont go from 105 to 147 in that short of period. And the only 154 fight was margo. After shane exposed his plaster. Eric Morales should the truth at 126 was it? Size, reach and boxing abilty will always beat the little guy. Yes pac beat him the next 2 but Morales already proved his point for his brother and had no will to fight on at that time.

                      good call red !!

also, Pac totally refused to rematch Cotto at 150

when Cotto first won a title at 154, Pac demanded that rematch at 147..... Cotto said he could make 150, but no lower..... so the Pac/Cotto rematch died over weight
