Very hard to define or explain I guess. When I go to Puerto Rico it feels like being in Puerto Rico feels like a much different country despite using US $.
You are right "American" is hard to define. I took the narrow route by defining it by citizenship only. I guess the largest view would be that anyone who lives in either South or North American is "American" by definition. Another view would be to see if Puerto Rico has more in common culturally with other Latin American countries than the USA.

Definitely more in common with Latin American cultures. The cuisine, the lifestyle, the culture, the music, the language, the customs basically everything. Like I said when your in Puerto Rico it feels a lot more like other Latin countries.

Trinidad is my 2nd favorite fighter of all-time (behind JMM) but I think it's hard to separate him from Gomez and Benitez. Those three could go in any order depends on how it's broken down. Maybe Trinidad based on being more consistent and having a longer run but Benitez had perhaps the better signature wins and natural ability and probably Gomez had the most devastating run (122) and best win (Zarate) in addition to being the more complete fighter. Hard between those 3.

        1. Carlos Ortiz
        -------
        2. Wilfredo Gomez
        3. Wilfred Benitez
        4. Felix Trinidad
        --------
        5. Esteban DeJesus
        6. Miguel Cotto
        7. Jose Torres
        8. Edwin Rosario
        9. Ivan Calderon
        10. Hector Camacho

I haven't seen enough or haven't studied the legacies of Cocao Kid, Jose Basora, Sixto Escobar enough but I see some old-timers put them anywhere from 5-10 in the rankings.
I'd place Torres at the bottom of that list. His best win was a washed up Pastrano, who was never truly great to begin with. He avoided Bob Foster at all costs and lost twice to **** Tiger, a blown up MW. He's more famous for co-authoring an Ali biography than anything else.

Nah. But he's a bad dude nonetheless. I see him sitting between 3-5.

Edit: Yeah, 5th at best after seeing a few lists with some names I blanked on. Still a great fighter.

Yep, they are Latino through and through. Puerto Rico is definitely more like Latin America than it is like Alabama or Nebraska.

Cotto, is a great fighter and definitely in the top 6 or 7 among Puerto Rico's all-time greats. Given Puerto Rico's great history in boxing, that is saying something. I also want to give a shout out to some lesser known Puerto Rican fighters who were among the best: Edwin Rosario, Juan LaPorte, and Esteban de Jesus!

I know Roach has trained him before but come on, man. Really?

Putting Cotto ahead of Trinidad is laughable.
