In order of risk it would be Rigo for going up for Lomachenko, Canelo taking bombs from Golovkin and Rungvisai for handing Chocolatito an immediate rematch.
I'm not talking about fighters that have to take risk(to help build profile and earn money fights), but I'm talking about guys who already have it made with a fan base, and are guaranteed big purses no matter what. Which fighters in that category took the biggest risk that they necessarily did not have to take? Pretty much the kind of fighters that true boxing fans love the most. Who were the risk takers of 2017?
Rod salka, shabransky, heiland, brian sutherland the goat
So Id agree Rigo jumping 2 divisions is a pretty big risk, and probably the biggest, because a loss for him might take all the luster out of his career and he ll get swept under rug, since his fights are not very exciting, it will leave him with less demand.
Also Canelo fighting GGG was a risk, but imo it was the fans who really made it happen by demanding nonstop.
Gotta throw in Wilder for attempting to fight Povetkin in Russia, and also attempting to fight Ortiz.
Joshua for fighting Klitsko is risky, although Wlad was coming off a loss and long lay off.
Already struggled at WW before going to MW. Got he **** pushed in and his face smashed to bits, then drops back down to take on a feared puncher in Errol Spence.
No thanks.
Also,
AJ- taking on Wlad so soon in his career
Wlad - Taking on another top rival when he had been out th ering for so long and at his age. He must be rich as hell by now so that is pure competitive spirit.
Rungvisai and Chocoloatito - for taking the first fight, and for taking the rematch when the first was so tough
Canelo and GGG - Obvious reasons.
And if we are talking fights that havent happened yet...
Rigondeaux - Signing to fight a top 5 P4Per 2 weight classes above his weight. No tune ups. At 37 yrs old.
