This is an excellent question. No, I think as you say, he wins a dull decision. I wager that there's no fighter in history who could have beat Ward. Not because he was skilled, but because he developed a cynical style that blurred the line between cheating and dirty fighting. So, to all the Ward lovers and Kovalev haters here, could Ward stop Shabranskky in 2 rounds?
I wager that Ward-Shabranskyy would be a 12 round snooze-fest full of clinching and wrestling. Unless of course he goes to the nuts since he is such a master inside fighter, and makes Slava "quit", with the ref waiving it off as a TKO...
Here is a clip that pretty much sums up the fight, for those who missed it:

Ward should of had a loss to Kovalev in the first fight and should of had points taken away from repeated low blows in the second. I thought the second fight was stopped prematurely.
Ward is a very good fighter and might have gone on to stop Kovalev in the second fight anyway but to suggest that Ward clearly beat Kovalev in both fights is silly. And this is coming from someone who isnt even a Kovalev fan.Comment

Russian boxer fighting in US, vs a US citizen, for US belts. Black referee, black opponent, black trainer who betrays his own fighter.
Andre Ward: Oh that guy who punched Kovalev in the balls and referee called it a TKO. Oh that guy who robbed Kovalev in the American soil. That guy who fights with headbutts, no power, that guy snoozefest.Comment
