Way too much is made of a 50-0 record. Chavez, Ray Robinson, Pep, and a number of other fighters got beyond 50-0 before losing a fight. Floyd was a great defensive fighter, but we all know he had a few close fortunate decisions going his way, not the least of which was Castillo I.

Correction, Robinson was defeated before after his 40th fight but still, far better than Mayweather.

Doesnt matter if Chavez had 50-0 record at one time. He fought a lot of tortilla flippers and orange pickers to pad that record.

Ray robinson and pep lol. Did they retire undefeated though? That is what is important at the end of the day.

Whether they were undefeated at one time is irrelevant if they dont retire with a perfect record.

Without the Castillo robbery and the McGregor circus show - the real GOAT Marciano would still have the record...

I think the record isn't about nation - it's about retiring with the most wins and being undefeated...

(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...)

Ray Robinson fought in that Jake LaMotta-Joey Maxim era - dude was fighting like every two months and fighting mini Rockys all the time.

Wonder how many so called boxing fans know that this record was a money making scam by Floyd. The 49-0 was originally referred to as the standard for heavyweight boxers as nobody started their career at heavyweight 49-0 other than Marciano. The only one that came close was Holmes at 48-0. Plenty of boxers in the lower weight classes surpassed 50-0. Hell, Yory Boy Campas was like 53-0 before fighting Trinidad. The only difference with Floyd is that he retired without officially losing.

This whole “Mayweather record” is something he made up and dumb people went along with it ignoring boxing history..Marciano retired 49-0 and no one thinks he’s the greatest heavyweight..as people here have said there are plenty of boxers that had passed that 50-0 mark but lost down the line..and please save the excuse that he’s the best because he made so much money if that’s the case please take your bootleg Gucci self and wait for the little yellow bus on the corner

I believe Jimmy Wilde was something like 97 wins before a loss.

Finito is 51-0-1 but the draw was a technical draw on a headbutt so a shortened fight. He immediately had a re-match and won the full fight so he's rightfully the current owner of the "record" but Moonsri will overtake him soon.

Wilder wants to go 50-0 by fighting more bums in the next years and then call himself the best Heavyweight ever who is avoided by Joshua & Parker. If Wilder really wants to fight Joshua then why he doesn't ask his promoter Di Bella to make an offer themselves to Team Joshua. Why Eddie Hearn has to take the first step every time ?
