I think some fighters are never the same after their first loss, and I believe Cotto to be one of these fighters.

With that said he was still a great fighter even after Margarito I, but he just lost a little bit of an edge to me, a little bit of that firing punches and not worried about what was coming back attitude was gone. When offensive minded fighters lose that, they miss opportunities, windows where they should let their hands go. There is a difference between defensive responsibility and being hesitant, Cotto became hesitant and lost assertiveness.

He did come back to be 90% of the fighter he was, but that last 10% is so important.

His prime probably started with Quintana, and the tip of his peak was Mosley, and Gomez, but unfortunately the Margarito fight brought it all to a screeching halt. I think the Mayweather fight was probably the end of his prime at 32.

It ended with Marg and Pac.

          2005-2009 I'd say.

Funny this thread was created to tell us that Cottos prime was from 2010-2012. The same way the one about Mosley was designed to show Mosleys prime was in 2010.

What's next oscars prime was 2007 and Pacquaio was 2015? Oh wait. I've heard that here too.

It's an interesting one though. After he trout fight when he got with roach I though he looked the best he's ever looked.

Roach increased his punch out put and sharpened his hooks

We should have a 10 Yr. Anniversary next year. Celebrate the exposure of Kneeguel.

I would say after Margarito bashed his brains in with what was most likely plaster in his gloves he was never the same fighter.

Still a top level fighter for many years to come just simply not the same guy he was pre Margarito.
