The number of PPV sales for boxing are not steadily rising, the data looks very similar to the data from the 90s in terms of actual sales. Despite the emergence of social media and streaming capabilities.

It's not clear what makes a PPV star. Oscar was indeed a PPV star but he never got to the Tyson level. He actually wasn't a bigger draw than Holyfield either.

Now you could argue that streaming piracy prevents the buy rate from exploding, but we can't be sure on that either. I will concede that there are definitely more eyeballs on these big fights, but not necessarily revenue generating views
Oscar was setting PPV records. Oscar and Tyson were the all-time top draws before Floyd emerged as a PPV star himself. In the early to mid 90's, when Tyson was the biggest star in the world, not every household had a set-top box capable of providing PPV. You'd have to drive to the cable company, borrow a box, and then return it the next day. Even after those boxes became commonplace in homes, you would still have to actually call the cable company to order the PPV. It was a bigger deal. Not as casual as today. Mike Tyson selling a million+ PPV in the early 90's is more significant than Floyd selling a million+ in 201X.

I remember making those calls, and I generally agree, but De La Hoya was never on a Floyd level. There's a reason his biggest payday and buyrate was against Floyd. The kid was a star regardless of the hate. He went on to do things no one thought was possible. We're talking about nearly $1.9 billion in PPV revenue alone. When you add in the live gate and misc income, that guy generated over $2.5 billion in revenue in a 12 year window. Its remarkable.

In similar market conditions, Tyson could've probably generated similar numbers

You really believe that? He couldn't crack a mil against Mosely but yet he was going to be doing the same numbers as Floyd. Last I remember he was still active when Floyd and Manny were fighting. Only reason he did big numbers his last few fights was because of Manny and Floyd, there was no one else he was going to sell a million PPVs against.

As PPV became readily available in more & more homes, the number of PPV sales also rose. Do you think Floyd generates more interest than Mike Tyson did when he was the PPV king? Floyd only sells those numbers because PPV has become more readily available on more platforms, and much easier to order on the fly. Oscar WAS the PPV king for a long time, weather you want to believe it or not.
If that was true why isn't there any boxers continually doing 1 mil PPVs then? If there's so many platforms and easily available to order PPV?

He told you the fight was bollox, you proved that you like bollox, so now he's willing to give you some bollox of his own. Is it hypocritical for Oscar to want the fight? Maybe, but he was only calling for fans to boycott the fight because it was a sideshow that had stolen the thunder from Canelo-Golovkin, which was a much more important fight that had been highly anticipated by hardcore fans. He was not asking for the fight to be boycotted out of jealousy. He does not care if Floyd fights an effeminate non-boxer, as long as it does not steal the shine from his own more important events.
Floyd haters are so pathetic lol. You're never going to get over it. Good.
