Comments Thread For: WBC Prez: Luis Ortiz Will Not Be Suspended, Retains His Ranking

Earlier this month, heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz had a meeting with World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman in Brooklyn, New York to discuss the Cuban boxer's recent drug test failure. His failed test had forced the WBC to drop Ortiz from a scheduled November 4 heavyweight title fight against Deontay Wilder at the Barclays Center. He was replaced by Bermane Stiverne, who was knocked out in one round.

Absolutely ****ing disgraceful. What a joke.

What's the point in having testing if an Org like the WBC will just drop their nuts and not follow though?

The WBC doesn't care about failed drug tests.

          Erik Morales
          Francisco Vargas
          Bermane Stiverne
          Luis Nery
          Luis Ortiz

          What's the point anymore?

Well.... crap. Why dump him from the Wilder fight then? (That Stiverne rematch is 3 minutes of my life I will never get back and interrupted some good NCAA Football.) If he can prove he has high blood pressure and was just ****** on forgetting to fill out the form correctly that asked what meds he was on, he should not have been dropped for the fight. If he can't, he should be suspended. Period.

They might as well let the Wilder go forward then.

He had genuine prescribed medication. It was a simple misunderstanding by the looks of it. They gave him the forms in English when he doesn't understand it. More worrying is that a boxer with high blood pressure fighting. That could be a big medical concern.
