  • Comments Thread For: Wilder Returns To Beast Mode, Regains Heavyweight Spotlight

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - As boxing goes, it's a tale as old as time and a song as old as rhyme. If you're looking to ****e up a fight that might struggle for traction on a weekend full of football, MMA and other options, a good, old-fashioned press conference death threat is a go-to means of diversion. To that end, an argument could be made that all the fight-week blathering between...

Wilder is fine. Boxing fans understand that Ortiz and Povetkin should be on his resume which would help. Casual fans only see the "0" and the KO's. And his harshest critics can be silenced by the Joshua fight when it happens (I believe in about 12 months from now after 2 more AJ defenses and another fight for Wilder).

Joshua's resume is better, but honestly not THAT much so. The Klitschko fight is being touted as an all time great, but he was 40 years old and coming off 18 months or so of inactivity. Let's not forget that Klitschko's previous fight was an embarrassing loss to Tyson Fury who is a snake oil salesman of a heavyweight who wasn't even in good shape when he was fighting Klitschko. Both Breazele (Wilder's likely next opponent) and Whyte are legit wins but neither are world beaters. After those three, there are a ton of low rent names.

Wilder just needs to keep winning and being a fun interview. The Joshua fight will come, then he can prove he is the man. Or he can allow Joshua to prove otherwise. Either way, one fighter becomes the others Signature Win.

It was exactly what he needed. An exciting win and a perfect call-out of "the other" champ. The night couldn't have gone better for him.
Judging by the seething hate he's getting from Hearn fans, I mean AJ fans, he's really made a statement.

Can’t argue with Wilder’s record. He’s knocked out everyone they’ve put in front of him. He does need to fight AJ soon to seal his credibility in the sport.

Dude Stiverne was a flat out can for that fight.
Overweight, inactive, old, been dropped a lot in sparring, Wilder beat it out of him the first time.
Several guys would have done what Wilder did.

Maybe, but Wilder did the actual thing. As one of the guys has pointed out on this thread, Wilder has knocked out everyone he has ever faced. Plus he is an actual world champion. Plus he is calling out Anthony. So his case for an Anthony fight is stronger than anybody else's.

The only fight right now should be Wilder vs Joshua but they'll try to get Joshua v Parker on in March before Wilder in the summer at Wembley.

                    +1, on all points.
