That is not how boxing worse, you can't just sit on the sidelines and hold the championship hostage, the sport moves on and passes the person sitting on the sideline by.

You don't stay champion into perpetuity while inactive. At some point whether you say you are retired or not when you become inactive for years with no signs of returning to the sport you are retired.

It is about logic not rules, a guy can't just hold a true championship hostage while inactive no injury reasons, or promotional issue keeping him on the sideline it is a personal choice.

If he was fighting even if unworthy opposition that is different hence why Stevenson is still the champ at 175~ and a lot don't consider him champ anymore~ then yea he can stay champ forever and might get some leeway here and there but no one gets two years+
