People seem to be a bit confused about the commercial side of an AJ Wilder fight.

This fight has the POTENTIAL to be a gigantic fight. Right now it's a big fight. Some people have made the point that AJ got a huge crowd to see him fight Takim so of course he'd get a big crowd to watch him fight Wilder. It's a fair point. But what it doesn't begin to take into account is how much money the fight against Takim takes in compared with a properly promoted fight against Wilder. Money for a fight comes from many sources but the bigger the fight the bigger the money and that isn't just the people watching in the room. The 'take' depends on 1. audience 2. ticket prices 3 TV revenues worldwide 4 sponsorship deals 5 advertising in and around the fight 6 merchandise etc etc. the audience size isn't the only factor. The bigger the fight, the bigger the hype the more money for everyone. Why do you think Mayweather and MacGregor worked so hard hyping up the fight? Why do you think Wilder is hyping the fight now? ANYTHING a promoter can do to build the fight he will because it's his job to make as much money as he can for himself AND the fighters and that includes Wilder. And btw if you don't think Wilder understands all this perfectly well you are underestimating him.

Making the fight bigger by letting the UK fans see Wilder fight makes zero sense?

Wilder doesn't need to fight Whyte or anyone to earn a shot at AJ but if he wants to improve the strength of his negotiation stance then he probably should fight Whyte.

None of Joshua's previous opponents had to earn their shot but those guys also took whatever they were given, Me thinks Wilder won't be satisfied with what those guys got, there is nothing to suggest Wilder is worth more than 20-25% of the pot (even with the WBC belt).... fighting and beating Whyte would boost his UK hype/value tremendously and it's a fight that most would say is winnable although not necessarily easy.

AJ just knocked out Wladimir Klitschko dude, that's more than Wilder has ever done. A fight between the two makes sense but Wilder should go fight Whyte first.

Sadly the truth of the matter is the Wilder, despite his title is pretty irrelevant and unknown in the UK so I doubt it would do more. AJ is drawing the casual crowd who would have no idea who Wilder is, they're just turning up to see him knock the next person in line out. The build up will help a little but Wilder is just not a captivating persona, heck he's relatively unknown in the US. The reason being is that he doesn't have a single decent name on his resume. As a boxing connoisseur this is the only really interesting matchup in the HW division right now, but Wilder's obscurity is what's stopping Hearn at the moment.

People are getting it twisted thinking that Hearn and AJ want him to fight Whyte to "earn the right" to fight AJ. If I was Hearn I'd demand the same thing, because it's known if it was held in the UK with Wilder achieving a spectacular knockout it would instantly raise his profile and make both him and AJ an absolute truck load of money.

It's all business at the end of the day, leaving aside any fanboyism, that I'm not particular partial to, it makes financial sense. Wilder would make millions fighting Whyte and then WAY more fighting AJ.

TL;DR Money talks, beating Whyte then fighting AJ would make Wilder earn more than double or treble all his previous fights put together.

This is that bull***** that casuals say, stop making boxing look bad when you guys say this *****. Wtf does any of that matter as a fan of boxing? We already know a fight will make more money if you "let it marinate" just look at May/Pac Canelo/GGG I didn't see anyone trying to say "let it marinate" when those fights were supposed to be made. We want to see an undisputed champion, we don't give a fcuk about how much $$ is involved cause at the end of the day I'm not getting any of it so why should I care?
