i defend castillo because so many of you are putting 100 percent of the blame on Castillo and its not soley his fault.
You don't so much defend Castillo as you do insinuate that the reason the fight didn't come off is because Corrales was afraid of him.
One thing I would never accuse either of these fighters of is cowardice Both of them have shown their heart and courage far too many times for that. This is why no one takes you seriously about this.
Now, how is Castillo not being able to make the contracted weight not solely his fault?
If it's because he could no longer make 135, how did he just happen to have 4 title fights at that weight within the last 2 years? The last one was almost exactly 1 year ago. he never showed any inability to make weight until 5 months later when the rematch happened.
Even if it is because he couldn't physically make the weight, why did he not inform Corrales camp of ths fact so that they could negotiate a fight at a catch weight so that Corrales wouldn't have to drain himself to make weight?
Regardless of alleged WBC monitoring, the reason this fight did not come off was because Castillo did not make weight and made no attempt to let anyone know so that the fight would have been fought at an agreed upon catch weight. No one in the world is responsible for Castillo's inability to make the contracted weight except himself.

Reason: fuck but I can't type this late
Ok, I liked the article but is was only a partial view of the situation. We shouldn't start calling Castillo a cheat or start throwing away his legacy. But.....it isn't acceptable to contract to fight at 135 then turn up overweight twice and expect to escape punishment and lawsuits. Thats the boxing game. he shouldn't have signed for the rematch and rubber at 135 if he couldn't make it, and a whole load of other people are also to blame for letting it get to the weigh in without communicating this to the people who paid money for tickets and hotel accommodation.
He did that in the 2nd fight and people somehow accepted it. But to do it again. Now that would be outright irresponsible and downright intentional.
Corrales is the bigger guy, and he comfortably made weight, why not Castillo?
No matter the rhetorics, it will all boil down to the fact that he had months to prepare, and he just sat his lazy ass on the chair. Low standards are for lower-tier fighters.
Unless you want it to apply to Castillo.
Bottomline, he lacked the dedication, commitment, sense of responsibility and foresight to even comply with the minimum requirements of a signed agreement.
Someone needs to tell this writer, & those supporting him in this thread, that all boxing fans want are for the best matchups to be made- & then fought out.
For this guy to take some pompous stance about the supposed "bloodthirsty", is pathetic.
Fans were super-charged for this fight, & I'm sure many people planned their Saturday nights around the fight.
Castillo was very irresponsible in the way he handled it all, while being solely responsible for the fiasco.
I love the way the guy fights, & have always admired the way he seeks out the toughest foes.......but he deserves to be ripped
