Pavlik was the favorite, he was undefeated and believed his own hype. Pavlik thought Hop was done and thought he was could easily retire Hopkins....that backfired BIG TIME.
because Pavlick probably couldnt make 164. And as was stated, he was the favorite
How did you work that one out? Pavlik defended his belt at 160 3 times after that fight. He just had more balls and thought he could take the “old man” at that point of his career, like someone else said before this post “Back fired big time”
Looking back now, it's insane that his people put him in there with Hopkins right Hop had lost a razor thin decision against Calzaghe.
I'm guessing his team thought that since Hopkins had lost to Taylor while they handled him easily, Hopkins would be more of the same. Good ol' triangle theory backfired again.
Are PAVLIK's American balls bigger than those from Kazakhstan? Just curious.
Pavlik thought Hopkins was finished at this point. It was a dumb move, that may have turned out better for him had he had the same mindset as Ward who decided the only way he'd fight Dawson was for him to come down a whole division. 😉

By October of 2008, Hopkins had too far outgrown the Middleweight division at that time. He was 43 years old and had long vacated the 160 lbs weight division by then. Moreover, he wouldn't have been able to make that 164 lbs weight limit anyway; Which is why they decided to fight at the Winky Wright weight of a 170 lbs in the first place.
