I believe he was really lowballed.. Vargas strikes me as a guy who'd fight anybody.

I'm guessing they offered him 200-300k.

GBP has to make lowball offers to top contenders because Cotto is determined to take the lion's share in his last fight. Cotto has a reputation for being something of a diva and hard to work with, but GBP seems to be taking all the blame here.

Hes ducking crawford and horn and now he thinks he can go get easy paydays at pbc but im willing to bet haymon is going to throw him to the wolves

Arum would have wanted an extension to fight crawford or horn. He puts extensions in every big fight to keep them locked in forever. If hes trying to get away it makes sense he wouldnt sign those fights.

We need to know what the cotto offer was. There arent any bigger names than cotto that vargas could reasonably get. I think $1 million flat is pretty reasonable for vargas for a cotto fight. Vargas will draw in more people and help cotto sell the fight vs a nobody. If Vargas turned down 1 million then thats shame on him. If its like 400k or something then thats on GBP.

wouldnt be surprised. Cotto was making demands that GGG-canelo winner fight him in december because cotto had a self imposed limitation of having his last fight before 2018. There is no reason they couldnt fight in february or something so they had time to recover and have a full length camp but cotto thinks the A level guys should jump for him and thats after he already had his shot and lost to canelo.

No idea what the actual offer was, but if you just lost your belt in a fight that got you $2.8m, and you were asked to move up in weight and fight for $280k (Knowing that a Cotto fight would still put a ton of money in the pot), you'd probably pass too.

Yep, realistically vargas is going to take a L vs cotto at 154. If he takes a lowball offer, signs a multifight contract with GBP to do it and then takes an L, he is going to be used as a gate keeper and already sent the message he will fight for peanuts.

It would be worth it to take a L for a million dollars because vargas might not get that opportunity again vs a big name.

But if GBP is offering him like 300k or so its not worth it. He is better off waiting with haymond and seeing if he can get a spence, thurman, garcia fight for 800k or so. If he accepts a low ball offer his career could be ***ed.

              You're incorrect.

Broner has 4 titles, he's HOF too right?

Cotto is 20-5 in world title fights since 2004, broner has only fought in 9 title fights huge difference. Also cotto has some really good wins on his resume shane mosely sergio martinez, also beat a bunch of former champions zab judah margarito mayorga ect. Im not saying its murderers row but he beat a couple a level and many b level fighters and when you add it all together it easily makes for a hall of fame career. broners best win was a split decision against paulie malignaggi who cotto dominated, again huge difference. Cotto has fought way better competition. I know sergio martinez was injured but we dont know exactly how much that affected him, he wasnt making any excuses after the fight

Id have to think it was somewhere close to a million for a high profile fight like that. He made 600k against bradley before he even had a title at 147. Id have to say hes probably overvaluing himself. I remember someone at pbc was saying chris algieri was asking for way more than he was worth just because he got a big payday against pacquiao. But who knows, i just think that hes looking for easy paydays at pbc but hes really going to get used as a gatekeeper

you're not very smart. I never argued that the ref didn't mess up. He did. But vargas wasn't going to finish Bradley. We've all seen Bradley in worse condition with much more time left vs a much stronger and aggressive fighter in provodnikov. Do you think vargas would've finished Bradley? And is that not vargas biggest claim to fame? Those are main points and we BOTH know I'm right.

I dont know if Bradley would or would not go down. The point was a old ass ref. Robbed the fans and Vargas, and Bradley.

Vargas was robbed a chance to try and finish him.

Bradley a legit for sure non-controversial win.

I mean just listen to that old dude???
