what's wrong with this?? if you aint fighting for me, why am i gonna give you the benefit of doubt and work with you and most likely get to do almost everything (promotions, etc.)? and mikey will most likely demand a big piece of the split too. this should let fighters who are thinking about becoming a free agent that it aint an easy road.
Being a free agent *should* be possible in boxing (if not viable)... otherwise you're unfairly limiting competition in the market... let's not forgot how Golden Boy got started after all... when you have business practices like this they stop people being free agents even when it makes financial sense for all parties to do a deal. That's why I think this is unfair.
Let me put it this way... if Mikey was signed to Top Rank, would Golden Boy have set the same conditions for a fight to be made? Or would they have made the fight anyway, knowing they couldn't sign him?Comment

Broner only sold 6,000 at his last fight in Cincy. It was not all because of Broner.
Nobody in NY is checking for Ali. If people in NY was checking for Ali he would've headlined his own card there and put butts in the seats. Rigo has put more butts in seats in NY than Ali has. Cotto can probably sell out against Ali at a low price point. He'll definetly sell out against Mikey and at a higher ticket price point.
Why would they give him that kind of exposure? Because they'll make money and he's going to be fighting Linares as a mandatory after that. So essentially they get Mikey for 2 fights like they wanted.
He had every intention of taking the fight. Even Golden Boy admits that. What are you talking about? You're making up stuff in your head. Check back in to realityComment

Don't GB have an obligation to Cotto as well though? If Mikey represents the best deal for Cotto, why shouldn't they take that fight for *their* client? Mikey's basically getting screwed because GB can refuse opponents for Cotto.

You don't argue from a point of principle, so I'd guess you're Libtard?Comment

yeah, the fighters signed to the promoter promoting the fight gets the bigger share! not some free agent bumming off a fight with your company trying to ask for the bigger share.Comment

Did you forget that Linares is with golden boy promotions?? If that fight happens in sure Oscar will want it on HBO.
And Mikey-Easter and Mikey-Figeroa ain't nothing to brag about. Decent Fights but nothing high profile.
Easter is overrated and Figueroa has fought once in three years so like I said.. Nothing to brag about.
Mikey-Easter and Mikey-Figueroa, are both fights that should have the fighters splitting $2m+.Comment

Mikey really has some of you guys fooled. He had no intention of going all the way up to 154 to fight Cotto, hes just doing what he always does which is call out a big name for publicity knowing full well the fight wasnt going to get made. For starters garcia is on pbc/ Showtime side who are the enemies of golden boy/ hboComment

I'm a big fan of Mikey but he has to make a decision soon on his promotional situation. Everyone assumed he was getting out the top rank deal to sign with haymon. But so far according to him he's not really a haymon guy just working on a fight by fight basis no contract. He and his brother complained about Broner treated like the A side and not liking how the fight was promoted. Well of course Broner was he is actually signed with Haymon so he is going to get better treatment. And he doesn't want to sign with any promoters and hasn't signed with Haymon. Something has to give.Comment

When he was with Top Rank he benefited by being in that promoter circle getting fights that other fighters should of gotten instead of him and being lined up for big money fights with in house fighters. That's what happens you jump the line and get title shots, big fights, opportunities over other fighters. Mikey even told other fighters who called him out "you want to fight me? then sign with Top Rank". Well he wanted out of Top Rank because he didn't want to reup his contract. Now he is out his contract like he wanted and is calling out to fight guys at top rank? Calling out to fight guys at Golden Boy but doesn't want to sign. OK then just officially sign with Haymon and start calling out Easter and other Haymon guys at 147. Haymon operates the same way look at Luis Ortiz who spent years and years calling out Wilder he signed this year with Haymon immediately got a shot at wilder. Now he failed the drug test but that's a different story but he got the fight because he signed with Haymon and no doubt was promised the fight when they were in talks to sign. Haymon, Golden Boy, Top Rank ect none of these guys are going to give you fights unless they have to or unless you sign and give them future fights.Last edited by bigdunny1; 10-10-2017, 10:15 AM.Comment
