  • Comments Thread For: DiBella Not Fearful of Promoter Hearn's 'British Invasion'

Lou DiBella is busy promoting the "Showtime Championship Boxing" 154-pound title tripleheader Saturday night at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The veteran promoter still couldn't help but notice that British promoter Eddie Hearn has been taking not-so-subtle shots at him since Hearn announced Matchroom Boxing USA signed Brooklyn's Daniel Jacobs. DiBella didn't hold back when contacted by BoxingScene.com.

cant see it working in the usa. the boxing over here is a package. people dont understand it on this forum stateside, see them slating people turning up to watch a **** fight but really the fights just a secondary thing for most people, its the whole event, the atmosphere, getting dressed up, and most importantly the drinking. Basically its an excuse to drink. Most people go out after so its just a warm up for that, thats why theres plenty of girls there too. From what i understand the culture is different over in the US.

Lou been around boxing a LONG TIME and he seen Upstart Promotions come and go I'm sure. I remember Lou from HBO/TVKO days when Lou actually had Hair , always been a straight shooter from what I remember

But he somewhat has a point. The landscape of boxing in American is TOTALLY Different and it is very difficult for new comers to find a way in. As we seen with Iron Mike Promotions, 50 and SMS Promotions and it looks like Roc Nation is out of the boxing World as well. So yes it is very difficult but I think Eddie will do OK with Jacobs and eventually bring over AJ I'm sure but no it won't be no "Hostel Take Over" or anything like that

DiBella sounds like a scared little bítch. Hearn has a bit of style I think New Yorkers will really take to. DiBella is a nobody 4th fiddle type cat. He should be glad there is a fresh face on the scene, more money for him that dummy.

“And it didn’t work out so well. I’m not denigrating them as promoters, but they certainly couldn’t do it in New York. And if Eddie thinks that a rich, British prep school kid, who’s out of touch with regular people, is somehow going to change the paradigm of boxing in New York, then he’s wrong.”
Eddie Hearn is a lot of things, but DiBella is talking rubbish when he says that Hearn is out of touch with regular people. Hearn is undoubtedly the most in touch with 'regular people' of all the promoters hence how he's consistently managed to get bums on seats and increase the popularity of boxing here in the UK.

Whether he'll be able to make a difference in the US is another matter altogether though.

Boxing scene: Please correct the error in the article where it says,"DiBella promotes roughly 60 fighters, including Wilder." That is inaccurate as there is no promotional contract between Wilder and DiBella.

I was about to say the same thing. Being aware of what "regular" people want is one of his best attributes

He's one of the worst promoters there is.. He should be worried. If I was Wilder I'd leave him ASAP for Hearn.. DiBella has done nothing for him.. America's only heavyweight champ yet he is completely unknown.

Go boy, yeah Lou, Hearn is a fraud and is jealous of Al Haymon and PBC, Lou talking all facts, he got Jacobs only to get Canelo/Triple G fight and make the $. Not hating on Jacobs. Eddie Hearn is a terrible promoter, he got the lottery with Joshua but he will soon be knocked out by Wilder. Hearn is a fraud!!!!
