If this is Cotto's final fight then it's disappointing. Ali has done nothing do deserve this fight. I would rather much see Lucas vs Cotto or Garcia vs Cotto.

Ali vs Cotto is absolutely pointless. December and November look bleak outside of Loma vs Rigo in boxing.
Garcia cotto wound be a good fight. And winnable enough for him to finish his career. Good choice

It's not like Lemieux was a better option.
Lemiuex was too big of a risk for cottos final fight. He didnt want to go out like bhop getting knocked through the ropes lol lemieux has sick power.

I agree that he should be able to fight who he wants for his last fight within reason. Its not like this guy is rod salka hes a top 20 or so welterweight. Im not a huge cotto fan, hes dodged all the top fighters in recent years but hes definitely hall of fame for what he accomplished overall in his career.

This article clearly explains my viewpoint:

Why do you believe Cotto deserves to be in the HOF?

This has been Cotto's career. Fight some chumps, beat them, then fight someone ok, beat them, face elites, gets his ass whopped for a big amount of money, repeat. Cotto has always been way overhyped. Reason they make a big deal out of him is to make their fighter's resume(Mayweather's fan boys come to mind) sound like a polished turd and people fall for it.

Yeah, because Mayweather needs Cotto to be a big deal in order to have a good resume.

                  Oh well.

Blame Bob Arum for keeping young Cotto away from Mayweather. He's on record saying that he didn't feel Cotto was ready for that fight.

                      It's never Mayweather's fault.
