Where the lineal title becomes meaningless is when random media members simply declare that a fight is filling the lineage, even though the recognized historical titles are not on the line.

Some say Tyson Fury is the "lineal" champion, but how? Vitali and Wladimir were WBC and WBA champions and refused to fight each other. How can Wladimir and Chagaev crown a "lineal" champion when everybody knew Vitali would beat both of them?

So we're all for keeping track of which WBC, WBA or IBF champion beat the man who beat the man, yet some would say WBO champion Jeff Horn is the lineal champion even though Keith Thurman unified the WBC and WBA titles after WBC/WBA champion Mayweather beat WBO champion Pacquiao.

But random people claim Pacquiao somehow won the lineal title after losing by beating Bradley, which would then give Horn claim as lineal champion? It doesn't make any sense.

If the vacancy isn't filled by unifying the WBC and WBA titles, then it's not really the same lineal title that that was held by all the greats over the last century.
So what's your take on Bud Crawfords lineal title and becoming undisputed champion?

He unified the WBC and WBA titles (and therefore the IBU/NYSAC/NBA lineage). That is how lineal vacancies should be filled. Good for him.

Pacquiao never held recognized world titles at those weights. He's a six division world champion. It's amazing that Arum was able to get the media to go along with the lie that he's an eight division world champion.

You can't have it both ways. Either the official titles are what count or the mythical title is what counts. You can't mix and match and then try to add up to eight. It doesn't make any sense.

Pacquiao is an 8 division in a sense of the Lineal at 126 and 140. I would rather have a Prime Barrera at 126 for the Lineal than some paper champ for the WBO or WBO, and rather a hatton for the Lineal at 140 than some unknown Russian guy for the WBC.

But you can't count both. Either the ABCs don't matter and all that matters is lineal, or the ABCs are what count. You can't mix and match to try to get up to 8. Pick your poison.

Yeah, I know what you meant. Pacquiao on paper is 6 division title since he only won the Ring & Lineal titles at both 126 and 140, but in history he'll be seen as 8 because of those wins lineal ship.

I hold the lineal title more legitimacy than any ABC groups UNLESS the ABC titles have been unified.

                Lineal Title>1 ABC belt
                Unified ABC Belts>Lineal Title

                IMHO

Once Arum is dead, his grip on the media will cease and history will accurately reflect Pacquiao as a six division world champion. To suggest otherwise is to simply lie about reality. Facts are facts. There are four world titles. He's held at least one of them in six different divisions. The lineal title doesn't exist and to those that suggest it should be followed instead of ABC belts, I applaud the effort, but there's still no logical explanation for recognizing both. Lineal is supposed to be instead of, not in addition to.

You can't rewrite history. Pacquiao's fame already faded into oblivion and he is still recognized by all analyst in the world as the ONLY 7 and 8. You talking here wont change anything. The fact that you have to make up some conspiracy theory about Arum controlling the media, or grip on the media had to do something of Pacquiao winning titles makes it laughable. Pacquiao would die and Arum die today he's still going to be recognized as the greatest promoter of all time, and the only 8 division world champion, it has nothing to do with Arum gripping the media, it has something to do with people watching Pacquiao climb those weight and beat the champions.

And you don't like that since its not Floyd.

not if the holder is prime-ish and held it for a period of time.
