What would be his other choices? It's becoming harder and harder to make top fighters fight each other in the PBC camp. Garcia is fighting Rios, instead of Porter, who in turn is facing Granados. Lara is fighting Gausha, instead of Andrade or Charlo. Thurman hasn't surfaced yet as if he's waiting for Spence to take another fight before he does.
Charlo 2 is available for Jacobs. Yet for some inexplicable reason that fight is not considered a big fight.Comment

Alvarez is a budding star, but he's not a "fight anyone and still do monster business" type of star just yet.
Alvarez has Golovkin, Saunders (play up the unification bit to have folks care), and maybe Lemieux as viable ppv fights ahead of Jacobs.
If Eddie Hearn does his job, you could literally have Jacobs as the sole viable ppv option before the end of the year.Comment

HBO could simply say "we love Canelo, but the only fight that's there that'd make business sense for everyone is to fight Daniel Jacobs".

Look how long Oscar made Triple g wait. I'm sure HBO would of loved to have Canelo fight Triple g right after the Cotto fight but that wasn't the case. I'm not saying it won't happen. I hope you're right cause I would love to see Canelo fight Jacobs if he wins the rematch with Triple g but IDK if Oscar would let that happen without him getting something in return.
Same thing with Linares. He's not gonna let mikey Garcia anywhere near Linares without him getting something in return. So IDK...Comment

I'll have to disagree with you on that. Canelo can pretty much fight anyone and HBO would pretty much get huge ratings. I'm not saying they necessarily have to go ppv everytime but if they go regular HBO I guarantee they get huge ratings.

Alvarez is on the cusp of never being able to, money wise, ever fight on regular HBO again; his last first-run fight on HBO saw him getting something like $3m for the US rights.
If the plan really is to have Alvarez fight solely on the May and September PPV dates going forward, the calculus changes.Comment

Linares will give up the WBC belt, and still stay in TV purgatory, as I doubt that HBO's low interest in him moves anywhere without the specter of the Mikey Garcia fight.
