The only fight I see Golovkin potentially taking between now and Canelo in May is against Saunders. That accomplishes two goals, money and a belt. I'd be surprised if he fights Charlo. As I said earlier I think Charlo could be looking into 2019 for a Golovkin fight if Golovkin beats Canelo in the rematch.

So he paid sanctioning fees for a belt that Canelo refuse to fight for? If so then thats bizarre.

Only way it made sense was if it was the only way to make sure he kept the belt vs being stripped, ie keep putting the belt on the line and keep paying the fees. The WBC won't be too philosophical about the situation, just be looking at their bottom line and how best to feed it.

I'm genuinely curious how Charlo went up the pecking order so quickly? He's had 1 middleweight fight right?

He was WBC champion at 154lbs, so I believe he got the immediate number one at 160. But IMO he is not worthy at this point of fighting for the title of true MW champion. I'm not crying if he doesn't get his shot yet. Now if he goes and beats Jacobs, who Sanchez says is the second best MW, then I'll be pushing for him to get the shot ASAP.

Regardless I said if he thinks he's getting Golovkin or Canelo any time soon I think he'll be in for a rude awakening. He needs to fight and not wait around.

Charlo's first fight at 160 was against Heiland, who had been the WBC mando for over 2 years! Charlo took over Heiland's mando position by beating him.

I would be amazed if Charlo asked the WBC for an immediate shot at GGG and even more amazed if the WBC granted it to him.

They can give GGG permission to fight Canelo again instead of ordering him to fight Charlo next, but they don't have any power to order a fight between GGG and Canelo.

You are correct. Basically what I meant is, the WBC is ok with ggg va Canelo 2, will not strip ggg and charlo is just gonna have to wait. This was all obvious, the bigger fight gets the go... ggg will not fight until may or unti Canelo is ready because that's his biggest pay day, ggg is not trying to risk that payday for a legacy fight with the last missing belt, the WBO. The whole time he criticized Canelo and cotto and all these other fighters saying they are businessmen and don't respect boxing... well, look at mr legacy now. Hypocrisy at its finest

Charlo was champ at 154 and beat the #1 contender that had the mandatory for his spot. Canelo would have vacated the belt if he won any way right?

Jacobs has a fight lined up so the could do Charlo vs Lemieux. Or If Suanders wants to unify finally they could pay Charlo step aside money and vacate the belt after the fight.
