Why is Shawn Porter being treated like a second tier fighter?

Cuz he needs to build his brand!

He met LeBron so I'm not sure why he didn't network with LeBron to give him a shout out to help boost his name!.

I like Porter, his style is exciting and he has no mercy when it comes to his opponents!.

I expect him and Danny to get it on sometime next year!

I would've liked him to challenge Spence but I understand why no one at 147 wants Errol!

Wished I could've seen him and Maidana go at it!

I always say Shawn is one of the most underrated fighters in the sport, I've got him ranked #3 in a loaded 147 division, just behind Thurman and Spence. Nobody is having an easy time with Showtime.

PBC fighters in general need to stay more active. I don't know why Haymon doesn't push for his guys to remain active. You have Thurman, Porter, Spence, Garcia, all exciting fighters whose fans are eager to see them but after a while they start becoming irrelevant to the current conversation. I wish we could see them active more and in quality fights and not just showcase fights.

everyone who got behind him to beat the british fighter just class him as rubbish, even though brook is a top 10 welterweight since hmm...the last 10 years id say.

would of been smarter to fight canelo as it was just one weight class. jump up 2 to face the best with gggs style was a silly move.

i dont think spence stops him prior ggg, lets say it was just after porter. oh well.

Now about the opponents. I understand that Shawn needed a fighter past his best after taking the L against Thurman. Andre Berto was the perfect opponent and Shawn handled business just like he was supposed to. What's the point of him facing Granados next? other than activity and stacking up the Wilder card that fight is meaningless.

I ride hard for Al Haymon but these Porter moves seem pretty questionable to me...
Porter got beat by Kell Brook, and Porter got beat by Keith Thurman after rebuilding.

It's a tough way to look at things, but what matchups are there where Porter is the star of a show?

Porter gets a fight to keep busy, and hopes against hope that he performs well enough to put enough money on the table to entice Danny Garcia to fight (Danny passed his test with Lucas Matthysse, and he went on to establish as a drawable fighter in NYC/Philly/SoCal/Puerto Rico before losing his close fight to Thurman).

Porter beats Garcia, in a good performance, and then he gets back onto the cusp of headlining his own TV date (he'd still need to pick off a world title, so that'd mean beating Spence, Thurman, or Horn at 147).

PBC is definitely easing a lot of the stigma, Porter being the clearest example, but boxing has always had a history of not really rewarding the "almost won the fight" guy.

Danny's living life; he earned more than $2m off the Thurman fight, after already basically having his life set, financially, even before the fight, and he's seemingly taken this break to rest his body and be a father to his little girl.

Saw a picture of him from some event where he was being featured, and he's already gotten rid of his usual bit of bloat between fights.

              No rush for Danny.

yeah hes a legitimate world class fighter. he lost to thurman and brook by the narrowest of margins, and in both fights quite a few people scored it a draw or for porter. but in this sport even if you lose by one round you are a bum and youve been exposed.
