Very good number. A little disappointing that Canelo did a similar number in a total sham event with Chavez Jr. But at least it shows that a big time boxing event, with a crossover star, can generate this kinda number.

Another insanely successful PPV blockbuster by Oscar! This is more that 1/3 of the way to Manny Pacquiao's record of 4.6 million buys. Just goes to show how the REAL fans will respond to the #1 P4P Champion of the last 6 years GGG against the #1 contender who had only lost once by Majority Decision to Roger Mayweather's nephew in the Nephew's own home town.

1.3 are strong numbers. The fight generated 80 million that doesn't even include the Movie theater buys and on line buys.
Same goes for Mayweather vs McGregor with the 4.3 million buys that didn't include the movie theater buys and on line buys.
At the end of the day both events were effected but still the amount of buys and media that followed both events were great for the sport.

It is good, don't get me wrong but it is also a bit disappointing just looking at the number IMO.
You figure Canelo vs. Chavez did 1.2MM and this did 1K more. I'd have to think about this more but on first take it makes me think:
Golovkin didn't bring a significant viewing fanbase, not really shocking. He's got a good fan base but not what guys like Cotto even had (not even bothering to mention FM, MP or any of the Mexican stars).
I also think it is a bit disappointing for Canelo, it makes me wonder if his growth hasn't pretty much peaked. You hear about cross over star but I think that this puts a big question mark on that. I kind of sense he's pretty much capped out. He's a Mexican star but he really isn't going to be an American star too, not even remotely close. The American audience isn't really all that interested in him.
Again this isn't to slam either guy. They made a whole lot of money and put on a good fight. No hate just trying to be intellectually honest.Comment

Everyone was critiquing Rick Glaser's number saying it did slightly more than 1 million buys the other day. This guys' source isn't' affiliated with HBO, his source could as well be Rick Glaser or the guy Rick get's his numbers from, as he says his numbers come from someone in the industry too.The figure was given to the Los Angeles Times by an individual intimately familiar with sales, but unauthorized to speak publicly on the matter. HBO televised the bout.
Not saying Lance's number are wrong just don't understand why people are believing the LA times vs Rick when both could have the same source.Comment

It was a great match that deserved lots of buys. It didn't even come close to Mayweather's record. It was a good fight with only the draw messing it up for the majority of fans who thought GGG clearly won. Canelo never wobbled GGG in the 10 round. He was off balance from missing a punch. The last 3 rounds were very close and Canelo didn't land more punches in any of those rounds. Few neutral scorers gave Canelo all 3 of those rounds.Comment
