In the future, when we evaluate Ward's resume and all his accomplishments, he's gonna be given a lot more respect and all the credit he rightly deserves. The haters can kick rocks.

I would've liked to have seen what his upper limit was and how great of a fighter/ higher weight class it would've taken to hand Ward his first loss or give him a real fight.

There's no doubt that the likes of Golovkin/Stevenson etc not being willing to fight him played a part as well. It's like - We were talking about him going to up Cruiserweight and Heavyweight because the guys we wanted to see him fight didn't want to fight him. Everyone knew he was the best boxer in the world, by a long way. The guys who say they always get ducked, went and ducked this guy.

I think it's a shame but at the same time respect for a great career. He was a masterful boxer and I always admired his determination/will to win.

Agree with a lot of this. Regarding your second paragraph... Kovalev was that guy for Ward and it turned out Ward was that guy for Kovalev also.

Andre Ward the kung fu disciple of The Master Bernard Hopkins has now retired peacefully after avenging his mentor and master's losses to Chad Dawson and Kovalev by stoppage... does he unretire for big daddy smith?

Ward hit Kovalev with his best shots, and Kovalev still didn't go down. I think that mentally broke Ward, which is why he got so frustrated, he turned into Andrew Golata. The same exact thing happened with Golata, a combination of fatigue and frustration that the opponent would not go anywhere, just like happened with Ward. The only difference is the ref gave Ward the win, but that doesn't change the mental effect it had on Ward to hit this guy with his best shots, and not be able to get him out. Ward knew he'd shot his load at that point, and that Kovalev would have knocked him out the next couple rounds if the referee hadn't stopped it. That's why Ward make excuses right after the fight about never taking a third fight with Kovalev, or Stevenson for that matter. He knows he's not on that level, and that the referee can only save you so many times before the better fighter takes you out.

Hopefully the top guys at 175 fight each other now, and we have a great era at 175 the next two years. At that point, the corrupt Ward fights vs Kovalev will just be a blip on the radar that people forget about, two inconclusive (though Kovalev won the 1st fight), corrupt fights that didn't connect to the rest of the division in any way since Ward didn't fight any other top 175's, that were not on an even playing field, and that did not prove or mean anything other than delaying the true competitions from happening for a year or two. Now the true best, unprotected light heavyweights can actually fight, and we can, hopefully, actually get a real #1 at the weight class for the first time in years.

Went out as undefeated unified p4p #1 champion and made Kovtards forever butthurt. Pretty impressive.

Definitely a HOF and last of the old school fighters. Enjoy your retirement Ward you earned it.

Ward is right. I remember not feeling good one day, went to the gym mopping, putting on my wraps warming up then coach says, "you gon spar today" & I said sure (not feeling good) I got in there half a**in then boom boom, I got rocked then I wrapped the guy up kept my distance till the next found & told coach no more....lol....never did that again you have to be in it not out of it to mix it up. One of the many experiences I learned in boxing.
