Comments Thread For: Ward: When You Don't Have Desire, Shouldn't Be in Boxing Ring

Andre Ward has had enough of boxing, physically and mentally, as an active participant. That's basically the way Ward explained his decision to retire Thursday during a phone appearance on ESPN's "First Take." Ward told moderator Molly Qerim, Max Kellerman and Stephen A. Smith that boxing had taken too much of a toll on his body and mind for him to continue fighting, despite that the undefeated light heavyweight champion is just 33 years old.

Credit to him for realizing this and going out on top.

There's no doubt that the likes of Golovkin/Stevenson etc not being willing to fight him played a part as well. It's like - We were talking about him going to up Cruiserweight and Heavyweight because the guys we wanted to see him fight didn't want to fight him. Everyone knew he was the best boxer in the world, by a long way. The guys who say they always get ducked, went and ducked this guy.

I think it's a shame but at the same time respect for a great career. He was a masterful boxer and I always admired his determination/will to win.

I wish guys like Toney and Jones would have lost their desire 10+ years ago.

And he managed his money frugally. That's why he'll never come back.

pure crap. both guys tried to fight him and ward turned them down. you just make this crap up or what? you listen to andre ward fake news network or something? also wards offer was turned down by ggg but you ever wonder why? go to my thread for proof it wasnt a duck. when you find out why it wasnt a duck you will start asking other questions such as "why did ward want anotehr tune up before fighting ggg when he just had one?"
