yep, Golovkin had no concern with legacy
just tip-toeing through the tulips, in a weak middleweight era
when he ran around for FIVE YEARS saying "anyone from 154-168", who did you think he meant?
we thought that he meant Cotto, if he was ever lucky enough to be in that position
FACT: Cotto was his best possible payday at that point
so, who did you think he meant ?
Marvin Hagler didn't have to go up to 168 to be great.
Neither did Carlos Monzon.
Both just held the middleweight championship and beat damn near everybody for it.
That's ALL GGG was and is obligated to do.
As long as he fights everybody at 160 who wanted it without ducking them, he'll be fine by me.
I don't judge fighters by what they say.
I judge them by what they do.
All he's done is fight everybody he was supposed to, who would fight him at 160.Comment

Completely irrelevant.

Golovkin beat up Pepe Le Pew, then he sc****d past Jacobs/Canelo
it doesn't take very long to sum up his resume
you judge a man by his words, AND by his actions
I have been lied to, and I object
you have been lied to, and you don't care
that is the differenceComment

those guys talked little, but fought big
Golovkin has talked big, but fought little
he completely failed to live up to his hype
I don't know how you could possibly arrive at the conclusions that you have come to
I 100% completely disagree, there are no similarities there
Hagler/Monzon did not run around for FIVE YEARS threatening to beat "anyone from 154-168"Comment

I can't believe that anybody takes what athletes say this seriously.
I mean, Floyd talks about beating GGG easily. I don't take that **** seriously.
Jim Brown was talking about being the best running back in football 15 years after he retired. I aint take that **** seriously.
Muhammad Ali said he was so mean that he made medicine sick. I didn't take that **** seriously.
GGG was the middle weight champion and fought everybody that would fight him.
That's all that matters.
You harping on some random statement that just amounts to a guy talking smack, which is what like 90% of athletes do.
He either fought who he was supposed to or he didn't. And he did.Comment

Just admit that you don't like GGG and get it over with.

this is his resume.....
Pepe Le Pew
Jacobs*
Canelo*
are you telling me that his resume would not improve with names of current/former ex-champs like Mora, Lara, Cotto, Ward?
labeling K2/Golovkin's FIVE YEAR "anyone from 154-168" marketing plan as a "random statement"..... is being totally dishonest
pretending like that was some off-handed comment, rather than a concerted PR/marketing strategy..... is being more than a little dishonest
Carl Froch is an example of an over-achiever
Gennady " anyone from 154-168 " Golovkin, is an example of an under-achiever
it is that simple
from the other thread.....
it abso-fkn-lutely does
why burn history just because you love Golovkin ?
I very rarely agree with you
you have a typical skewed " fan " viewpoint
the WHOLE story is this.....
the determining factor for greatness is.....
who you beat, with consideration given to when/how
NOTHING else
the number of divisions you represented, is completely irrelevant
Willie Pep only ever fought in one division
but, here is the point you are missing.....
the guys who fought in multiple divisions had more opportunities to face elite/great fighters
Golovkin has a very average resume, fighting in a stagnant middleweight era..... and he did not move up - or make any type of concessions - to chase bigger/better fights.....
whichever way a fighter chooses to manage his career, the results will speak for themselves..... and results = resume
names ONLY..... NO excuses
THAT is the whole story..... not just the bit that you thought reflected well on GolovkinComment
-
like Pacquiao, Golovkin's fans have extremely low expectations from Gennady.....
I expected more from someone who promised the 154-168 world, but then refused to lift a finger to make those fights happen
there is nothing inaccurate in what I said..... so labelling that comment as "hate", is just a childish excuseLast edited by aboutfkntime; 10-03-2017, 04:51 PM.Comment

Everybody's resume could've improved except maybe Ali and Ray Robinson or something.
What I'm saying is that a guy isn't obligated to go above and beyond what's expected of him.
A champion is expected to defend his belt against all comers. I see no proof that GGG didn't do that.
It's not his fault that enough comers wanted it with him when he was in his prime.
If he moved up to 168, would his resume be better, hell yeah!
If he gained 50 lbs & fought Klitschko, would that have made his resume better?
Of course!
He wasn't obligated to do any of that ****.
He fought everybody he was supposed to at the division he was champion at. Nothing else.
It's not like Canelo who was the middleweight champ and refusing to fight guys at 160 or other guys we see who stall and delay and wait for guys to move out of the division.
He aint do none of that. He fought at the division that he was supposed to. He wasn't like guys who are naturally bigger and then drain themselves the night before to make weight.
He's naturally a middlweight. He fought at middleweight and he beat everybody who'd fight him at middleweight
Will he go down as all-time top 10?
No, but he did what was obligated from him.Comment

this is what you have successfully argued.....
that Golovkin, is average.....
that he has done nothing more than was expected from him..... that he has done nothing more than he was obligated to do..... despite competing in an obviously stagnant middleweight era..... and that he would not lift a finger to make bigger/better fights, because he was not obligated to do so
I would agree with that..... but I would also add that he is an under-achiever, considering all of that 154-168 nonsense..... he has certainly delivered far lees than what was promised five years ago
so mentioning all-time top 10 - or even close - is absurd
and insulting
because, those fighters did MUCH more than they were "obligated" to do..... they achieved MUCH more than was expected of them..... and most of them went out of their way to reach for greatness, rather than just sit there doing what was "obligated" of them
" obligated "..... is a very ordinary, average, word.....
you usually hear that word referring to mid-level contenders and paper champs..... and Golovkin is obviously better than thatComment

I specifically said he wouldn't go down in the top 10.
All I said was he didn't duck anybody and beat everybody that was willing to challenge him for his belt.
If you think that that makes him average in a historical context, fine.
He did what was obligated and didn't duck any MWs. Nothing else needs to be saidComment
