They worked on Carl Froch:
"When I retired, I retired at the right time, but I had no concerns about facing Golovkin. It was just all about the timing. The timing was all wrong and they wanted me to take some weight off as well. I had been out of the ring for over a year when they really started talking seriously."
So GGG's team wanted him to come down a little bit below 168. At the same time Carl Froch wanted GGG to come up to 172 since he felt he wouldn't be able to safetly come in at 168 at that point in his career.
So I think negotiations there were earnest. It was as Froch stated "a matter of timing". A few years earlier it would have been possible. But by the time GGG got big enough to come up on Froch's radar as a serious opponent it was probably too late to come up with a fair weight for both.
So that's just one example of one A-level fighter they tried to make a fight with.Comment

Never said it didn't. He was making a couple points that I was disagreeing with. The big one was that he said GGG's team was soley focused on Canelo. So you're essentially agreeing with me.
I 100% agree. I don't think even they thought those fights had a reasonable amount of chance of happening. I think its one of those things where everyone who between 140 and 160 who wants a big money fight calls for one of them and hopes for the best.
I disagree. Cotto never wanted it. Canelo was always the more realistic option. He was a young guy who was still growing. He'd eventually grow out of the 154 pound division. Cotto had probably reached his peak at 154. As it is, I don't think he carried his power up to 154 anyway.
First of all, I don't think you understand how roadblocks work. A road without a block is one in which traffic moves freely. If the cops set up a road block traffic cannot move freely. You cannot accuse the drivers who have to change direction to go around the roadblock of settling up a road block. That's not how it works in real life and that isn't how things work in your metaphor. Cotto said "this fight only happens under these circumstance" and GGG's team reacted to it. Cotto created the roadblock. GGG's team reacted to it.
Secondly, Cotto also pulled the "who did this guy fight" and he needs to fight an A-level fighter before he gets the fight" nonsense as well.
First of all, there is a lot of grandstanding coming from Froch as well. He couldn't realistically believe that he was going to drag GGG up to that weight. I find it really fascinating that you would criticize GGG for settling on Kell Brook to save the event after negotiations with Chris Eubanks Jr fell apart BUT don't even blink when Carl Froch asked GGG's promoter to have GGG jump to 172. There is a big difference between settling on an opponent who has to move up a ton of weight and then actively trying to get an opponent to move up a ton of weight.
Secondly, I think the big problem people like you have is GGG's quote where he said he would fight anyone from 154-168. He said he'd fight anyone from those weight classes. He didn't say he'd move up and down in weight or how much he'd be willing to move. Furthermore, that quote came from him all the way back in 2012. Things change. Maybe he was able to drop down to 154 back in 2012. It may no longer have been possible in 2015.
I don't consider Chavez an A-level fighter either. That was part of my initial problem with the guy. He talks about GGG not fighting A-level guys who called him out but I think you first need to define who is an A-level fighter. Maybe Chavez Jr could have been considered that before the Sergio Martinez fight. But he got exposed in that fight and hasn't looked great since the final minute and a half of that fight.
Lara never moved up from 154 so that's on him. Cotto won a belt in GGG's division, demanded GGG fight for that belt at a catchweight and then left the division when he lost. Not fighting GGG is on him. Ward hasn't made 168 since 2013. I don't think he was ever really serious about the GGG fight. Not that he didn't think he could beat GGG. Not that he wouldn't have taken that fight with GGG. Just that it was never really possible because of the weight issue so I think it was mostly just grandstanding on his end with a sprinkle of " I would do cartwheels if it actually happened" mixed in.
I don't really blame Froch. I don't really think his heart was in it anymore anyway. Its kind of similar to Ward. I think he would have taken the fight in the right circumstances but I don't think he was at the point in his life where he really wanted to fight.
And yes, someone who fought those guys and gave a good account of himself even in defeat would be a bada$$.Comment

I feel confident that the guy I picked was the guy who won regardless of what two judges thought. Overwhelming majority of press, fighters and fans think so to.
And you act like you were right. LOL!
Anyways as I said I'm tired of you. You aren't a serious fan. I see who and what you are. I got you figured out. You're a loser in life who's accomplished nothing. You care more about the color of a guy's skin when watching boxing first and foremost. I see right through you. You can tell me otherwise but I got you and certain members pegged here. I see it when certain people go after Ward and Mayweather and I see it when certain people go after Golovkin.
Take a hike chump.Comment

I am going to say it, even if nobody else will.....
you should be tied up, p1ssed on, and then dragged behind a horse..... for making that comment
that is utterly disgraceful
actually, what is more disgraceful.....
1) the fact that anybody could think fighting JMW/SMW's at 160 is anything other than b1tch-move
2) the fact that you would use that obviously false excuse
you just thought about it, and realized what you did..... right?Comment

LOL I made one prediction tard and like 99% of people it didn't come true.

no kid..... you talked utter rubbish for weeks leading up to that fight..... predicting a whole lot of things that Golovkin was going to do..... and predicting a whole lot of things that Canelo was not going to do
go on, deny it..... and force an expert post-history searcher like me to embarrass you further
all I am saying is..... you were wrong, so go cry elsewhere
Golovkin was the supposed destroyer, you picked a Golovkin KO
R10
and yet he was out-boxed..... out-thought..... out-slicked..... he missed a TON of punches..... and he got hit with cleaner shots than he was landing
that did not go according to plan for you, or for Golovkin
so, shush now
hey, at least you did not try to tell us that when Golovkin ran around saying all 154-168 stuff, he was wanting those guys to fight him at 160..... like that other casualComment

So take your punk ass somewhere else. Making straw man arguments isn't going to work with me.Comment

And don't think I don't notice what you are. You can try and play it off but I got you pegged you crusty bigot. I've been around it too long to know the real problem you got with Golovkin.Comment

Didn't bother reading your trash because you claim I said a bunch of rubbish with of course no back up. I didn't talk a bunch of trash. In fact I did the opposite. Beating Canelo is an excellent win. Why would I trash him? I predicted a 10th round TKO. Canelo's corner stopping the fight. Didn't happen and neither did your prediction.
So take your punk ass somewhere else. Making straw man arguments isn't going to work with me.
yes you did
and, I did not say that you trashed Canelo.....
I said that you made prediction(s) - more than one - that turned out to be rubbish
then I warned you about lying, because I am an expert post-history searcher
then you denied it
so..... back soonComment
