    • That was a great fight. Canelo fought his heart out but Golovkin fought him tit for tat, Canelo looked gassed most of the middle rounds. The crowd was pro GGG.

I won't refute that (7-5) in favor of GGG but you do realize you're arguing for a "swing" round in his favor, right? so a draw is not a controversial decision.

And you're absolutely right even in a draw GGG technically wins since he retains his belts. But if I'm not mistaken GGG was the favorite, being the bigger fighter/puncher, and Nelo wasn't supposed to finish on his feet, so there's no shame in the result. Cong**** to both fighters

        • Congratulation to both fighters on a spirited effort. I thought that both men gave as good as they got. I was especially surprised by Canelo's ring generalship; Especially earlier in the bout by landing the cleaner, crispier combinations and flashier punches.

However after that, just as I predicted, his punch volume and work rate began to drop, Although he did land the occasional counters in the middle rounds of the fight, I thought that it wasn't nearly enough to offset Golovkin's pressure and work rate as he walked him down and backed him up for most of the night.

In the end though, I believed that GGG won this fight and was robbed of a decisive victory by the judges; Especially Adalaide Byrd's score of 118-110 for Canelo Alvarez which I found to be both incredible and unbelievable.

          • FACT: Canelo is a tough son-of-a-b1tch
            FACT: so is Golovkin
FACT: Golovkin aint no killer doe

now does everyone understand why Mr "anyone from 154-168" totally refused to negotiate on weight with TWO world-class superstars?

            Cotto weighed 153 FFS

            #levels

FACT: Canelo would have beaten Golovkin at 155, and Cotto would have given him fits

            #mythbusters

            told y'all

              the " 154 " myths are well-and-truly busted.....

same with 168, Golovkin aint going up there

I would just about bet my life that the guy who said he could beat anyone from 154-168, never fights outside 160, EVER

which is no big deal, but it makes all that talk look real weak

I agree with the stamina thing. I think that's Canelo's Achilles heel. He so skilled. Golovkin is just a freak of nature, too tough and unrelenting. Canelo hit him with some good shots but didn't phase him.

                • If round 5 was 'great' when i see one good punch and then 10 seconds of fighters debating whether that was hurting or no with their facial expressions then why did I feel sick and disgusted watching it? First half was disgusting: GGG was like Kovalev while Canelo was like cheap copy of Ward.
Canelo was better but bouncing off of every landed punch like from car accident. Golovkin VERY SLOW and looked being afraid to let hands go at first half. He seemed like don't know how to box aggressive effectively even when Canelo was hurt big. Maybe I am spoiled by Ward's, Lomachenko's, Wilder etc or just upset by GGG's performance.
2nd half was way better. 7&8 were OK. 9& further were great.

It was a good, close fight. Both guys showed courage. GGG has a mandatory with Charlo. We shall see how that turns out. I think Canelo exceeded expectations and GGG did not. They are not all-time greats by any means, but this fight did provide good entertainment and lots of after the fight social media chatter too.

                    • Got no problem with a draw result, regardless of who landed how many what, it kind of felt right at the end as both gave it everything and matched each other the whole way (ok, technically I had Golovkin winning more rounds, but it felt technical).

But Byrd 118-110 ? That's hopefully the end of her career as its as bad as the CJ Ross draw result for Canelo/Mayweather - she delivered the only failure of the night and should be help to account for potentially ruining what was otherwise a great night for boxing. 115-113 Canelo no problem, but 118-110, the marching boots need to go on to get her off to wherever CJ Ross has gone. These guys work too hard and put their lives on the line and don't deserve to be subject to insulting officiating from people who have no clue about the sport. If you aren't entirely convinced by her incompetence, go watch Lomachenko-Walters round 6 right now and explain how she gave Walters that round !
