Froch: 'Golovkin gets hit too much'
Just following on from another thread where Golovkin's opposition was reduced to just Jacobs and Lemoo, and Canelo's prime level opposition down to Trout/Lara/Mayweahter. How much did these guys get hit ? (In lemoo's case we have to scale it up by 3/2 to see what it might have looked like after 12).
How many punches did they take?
Golovkin
- Jacobs: 173 (Golovkin landed 231)
- Lemoo: 136 (as mentioned scaled up for 12 rounds, Golovkin 420)
Canelo:
- Lara: 107 (but note that Canelo only landed 97....Lara made it that kind of fight)
- Trout: 154 (Canelo only landed 124)
- Mayweather: 232 (Canelo landed 117)
- Cotto 129 (Canelo landed 155)
Threw Cotto in as why not, but ignored JCC as he wasn't throwing.
Key Question: How many do we think Jacobs would land on Canelo over 12 ?
Seem to be a lot of assumptions going into this fight that don't really stand up when you look closely. Sure you could look at some fights like Brook and Monroe where Golovkin fought according to the Brook Blueprint (which was really just the Monroe Blueprint of 'show Golovkin you've got nothing to bother him so he stops moving his feet') - but that Golovkin won't be showing up to fight Canelo, the Jacobs/Lemoo one will.
But the numbers tell us that Golovkin throws a lot more, and subsequently gets hit more too, but to date has significantly out-landed the opponent, whereas Canelo gets out-landed.
Sure Canelo's numbers start to look better if you start including the Kirklands and Angulos, but so do Golovkins once you start to include the Murrays, Geales and Macklins.
