similarities between garcia vs matthysse and canelo vs golovkin

when Garcia fought matthysse they thought he was going to lose by ko within the first 10 rounds, everybody predicted that and the reasons were ''garcia had questionable decisions and was managed right''

garcia defeated him in a tough but close fight, using movement, counter punching and combinations to freeze him up. garcia showed he had the best chin in the business that night with the leather he ate.

canelo is viewed as smaller and weaker than golovkin and is expected to get KO'd in the fight because golovkin will walk right through him because he cant punch.

canelo is faster, better counter puncher and throws combinations.

Canelo's talent is pretty clear though, Garcia has that sort of style where he steps to the competition and grinds out the win so it was always hard to work out how good he was.

I get the impression come fight night Canelo might actually be the favourite whereas Danny wasn't supposed to make it out of the early rounds.

wrong. a lot of people are picking canelo to win. most have it as a 50-50 fight. drop the bull**** narrative.

Something GGG does that Lucas doesn't, is throw punches at weird angles out of his little shell-up move he does when he's on the inside. Lucas just shells up and lets you tee-off on him

Also we know Danny has a chin after getting tagged repeatedly by Lucas in that fight

We don't know how good Canelo's chin is

That fight & Ward vs Kovalev are a couple of the bigger reasons I'm thinking Canelo. A good boxer beats a good puncher. Thing is a lot of cats are trying to make GGG into the better boxer much like they tried to do with Kovalev, but I just don't see it. The higher boxing IQ guy is the better boxer to me & Canelo has that to me thus he's my pick.

Idk if the good boxer beats the good puncher 100% of the time so its not like its a perfect analogy for this fight or any other, but I believe it happens far more often then not. And if I'm legit calling it wrong & GGG is the legit better boxer with the higher boxing IQ fair play I'll admit I'm wrong Sunday morning after I've seen the result of the fight.

Mostly don't give a f#ck who wins & just wanna be entertained & see a good fun fight.

This I agree with 100%. If it's a good fight then I could give a damn who wins. But I always find myself going for the boxer over the puncher. The Bhops over Pavlik , or the Mayweather over Maidaina. Bradley over the Siberian Rocky , Ward over Krusher, being the most recent example.

Every now and then you get something as good as Marquez pacman. I just don't see that happening here.

well with a lot of the comments im reading and 'expert picks' it seems more of a shock if golovkin wins than anything. and there arent many parallels, garcia was unbeaten and golovkin was unbeaten so maybe youve got things the wrong way round in your example. Both mattysse and canelo struggled with movers- judah/alexander to lara/mayweather/trout

The betting line has been & still favors GGG doe. So while a lot of the people talking about the fight & picking publicly are saying Canelo the money is still going on GGG. In fact the line has been dropping by a lil bit for a few weeks to closer odds, but its went back up this week as the fight draws nearer.

That said I think this fight is basically a pickem (60/40 GGG by betting odds & maybe around 60/40 Canelo with pundits + fans picking publicly I guess) so idk that if either guy wins he was supposed to or it was an upset.

As the fight nears, I see a lot of people picking Canelo.

No one picked Garcia to beat Matthysse. No one expected Garcia to see the final bell.

Got to echo what others are saying GGG vs Canelo is more a 50/50 or 60/40 at worst, nobody was picking Garcia. Myself included, I seriously believed Lucas would literally end his life
