If you made the gloves smaller then fighters would have broken hands and wrists all the time, jaws, eye sockets and fights wouldn't last 2 minutes. Most would be over inside a minute. Who is going to pay PPV to watch that?

8-10oz is fine when you consider how its distributed and a lot of the glove weight is in the hem or wrist of the glove.
Have you ever been hit by a boxing glove or even felt a boxing glove? There isn't actually a great deal of padding in the face of the glove at all as it is.

Even these feather-fisted punchers, you still feel their shots, believe me.
maybe then they wouldn't need to pad their records and have so many tune up fights... and they can actually only fight the elite fighters?

They can still train with headgear and bigger gloves for sparring.... but being knocked out with one combo or perfect strike to the chin vs being pounded in the head for 12 rounds seems healthier in the long run

you wouldn't pay to see this with no kicks or takedowns?

Even if you are trolling, it is still a step up from most posters

I heard they have some sanctioned bare knuckle fights now. I think it would have to be considered a separate sport and then be sanctioned by different commissions. The hard part would be to build up a reputation and following while operating in the shadow of "real" boxing.

Maybe a spin off operated by the UFC, taking advantage of its resources and market could gain some traction.

Idle thoughts though, I don't expect anything.

If I wanted to see that I'd stand outside of my local chip shop on a friday night. That is all I honestly see two roided up drunks there is no skill or technique in any of that. What even is it? Its embarrassing. My little sister has a better fighting I.Q and never had a fight in her life.
                  Its just trash.

I'm a fan of strategy, smarts, skill, adjustments, adapting, finesse there is only so much of watching two neanderthals just swinging for the sheer sake of it I can take.

You realize that these guys that, "hide behind their gloves" have matrix like head movement, and partying abilities, so even if they were in a street fight, or an MMA match with smaller, or no gloves, they'd still be able to dodge and parry punches at the highest level of possible, especially relative to their opponent that doesn't have as much boxing knowledge and experience as them.

Look at his posture all hunched over, ploughing in squared up, head first. Look at his feet and look at what I presume was an attempt of an overhand right?

If that was the Street and you seen that you'd laugh and say the guy had never had a fight in his damn life and that is honestly what it looks like and nobody would argue it.

He looks like a literal caveman. You ever see a mong or special needs kid lose his **** in school? That is exactly how it looks.
