Should GGG's WBA "regular" title defenses count towards the middleweight record?

Well, Hopkins count his 20 defenses, wherein he has 3 defenses against the same guy.
The defense against William Bo James who had an awful awful resume. His biggest win was against Kevin Tillman. On points.
Steve Frank. Who had only been in a 10 round once before. Which he lost. He also took the fight on less than a month's notice.
And many more that would have been destroyed by Ouma.

Most articles about Canelo vs Golovkin seem to make it a point to mention that GGG has 18 consecutive title defenses. Something which is debatable.

I think there were a few that took place while the super WBA was vacant, and before GGG himself became the super WBA champion, which I guess you could count.
Here are the WBA's own definition of what is required to be elevated to super champion.
DEFINITION. The SUPER WORLD CHAMPION CATEGORY OR UNDISPUTED WORLD CHAMPION was created for those World Champions who hold the title of two or more organizations recognized by the WBA, like the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organization
1) Sturm was elevated to super champion without unifying any other title.
2) GGG was his mandatory challenger.
3) There are reliable sources that claim that Sturm paid the WBA to be elevated to Super Champion a way to avoid his mandatory defense against Golvkin.
Had the WBA operated by its own rules, Sturm would have been forced to either Face Golvkin or vacate the belt.
Given all of those circumstances, and considering that Sturm did not face Golvkin, it is reasonable to consider that Golvkin won the vacant title.Last edited by !! Shawn; 09-09-2017, 07:19 PM.

No. He fought straight up bums when he defended that. Shameful people try and pretend that he's breaking some record from defending that crap
