Should GGG's WBA "regular" title defenses count towards the middleweight record?

It shouldn't but the record books will say that it does. There's a kind of justice in it to my mind though since Golovkin was screwed out of his shot at Sturm.

It's a regular WORLD title, of course it should count!

GGG is gonna set the mw title defense record, deal with it

I think there were a few that took place while the super WBA was vacant, and before GGG himself became the super WBA champion, which I guess you could count.
Fair point. I think I would agree with that.

Title defences should start at the point he beat Rosado as the sole WBA champion

Aye, Gealse was stripped in Nov 2012. So everyone of GGG's win from Rosado onwards counts.

there is no point trying to compare this era to previous eras with less weight divisions(better concentration of talent) and less belts. 4 champs in every division......its just dumb. just having a belt does not even make you top 4 in the division. look at benavidez. now hes top 4? no.

So you're saying it's funny how obsessed the media is with Golovkin?

Because they are the ones who keep pushing his number of title defenses in articles I've been reading, which is what gave me the idea for this thread.

When he defended the title he was the full WBA champion so it should count. You GGG haters are desperate to take credit away from him. He was the WBA world champ and he knocked his challengers out. That counts as successful world title defenses to me.

As far as only undisputed champions title defenses count goes that is very unrealistic today. Any boxing fan who is paying attention should know that. In the 18 different weight classes we now have exactly one undisputed champion in Crawford and that just happened a very short time ago. Within less than a year it's a safe bet Crawford will no longer be an undisputed champ. In other words collecting all the belts and keeping them is almost impossible today.
