I mean yes he knows Golovkin is going to be a heck of a fight but I don't believe Canelo was looking to avoid this fight. I believe when he said he was ready to fight Golovkin he was ready at 160lbs or 154lbs. If you believe Golovkin he said Canelo told him it wasn't him but all GBP.

The guy who didn't want this fight to happen clearly before this year was DLH. He had no intention of it happening earlier. He said it, no fight until 2017. Why? I do think he was worried about his catch cow getting beat and possibly badly. DLH is a business guy and he looked at this from that perspective. And you know what from a business standpoint I think it made sense. His guy is getting better, his opposition is only getting older and the fight only built up more press. As horrible as Pac-Floyd was and IMO bad for boxing that fight was massive financially. Fight should have happened much earlier but from a money perspective you can't argue it was anything less than a smashing success.
Agree that Pac/May should've happened right after the Cotto fight, but we all know Floyd and his team were being a bunch of scary asses. And I understand the business aspect, and that Odlhya was protecting his prized possession, but if Canelo really wasn't worried, he was making him look really bad.

Hell, just a few months before the fight was officially announced, you had some Mexican/Canelo fans even talking trash about Nelo, and that he wasn't being a Mexican warrior by ducking and dodging him. Also, talking all that stuff about wanting the fight, but then never coming through on it.

But hey, they're actually fighting, and it's upon us, so no point in harping on old stuff. Just glad the fights made, and the winner comes out a legend. I don't care what anyone says, winner is clearly #2 P4P in my book.

Canelo is a side and that hasn't changed since the beginning, maybe team ggg realizes that time isn't on their side and gave in to the money portion of the negotiations, they have a gag order. Golden boy pretty much pimping k2 and gggoons

I've said it numerous times, their careers up to the Tito and Canelo fights are very similar and had the same criticisms. And I don't deny that there is valid criticisms that their competition wasn't the strongest.

who's ass did you pull that tidbit from ?

I said..... Hopkins was willing to give concessions in order to make a HUGE fight, but Golovkin was not

        not with Cotto, or Canelo

Canelo was well within his rights to stick to his guns

when Golovkin passed on that fight at 155, Canelo should have made Golovkin wait until he had a couple of lesser fights to adapt at 160..... get some more miles on those old legs

canelo and cotto are also superstars, not gennady!

Canelo and cotto have both made concessions to their a side to make big fights in the past, not gennady

canelo and cotto have been champs at multiple weight classes and have victories over future hall of famers, not gennady.

Canelo did everyone a favor by going to the full 160 to make the fight when he didn't have too... not Gennady

          oh shht.....

          ether 10/10

            • GGG has a point, if he murked Jacobs he would not be fighting Canelo.

I think everyone would agree with that.

                yea, uh..... nah that's bullshht

because Golovkin had TWO previous opportunities to fight Canelo, and he refused

                that is on him

see, this is like the Mayweather/Pacquiao situation.....

people blamed Mayweather for asking, but ignored Pacquiao for inexplicably refusing..... something that should not have been a problem..... which is bizarre

Mr " anyone from 154-168 " ran around for FOUR YEARS talking about fighting Mayweather and Pacquiao, and they specifically mentioned fighting Canelo at 154..... and they offered to defend at catchweight against Gabe Rosado and Kell Brook..... so there is no way Canelo could know that Team Golovkin would kill that fight over weight

and the second offer..... 10 million dollars is a hell of a lot of money man..... and that is one hell of an opportunity to finally get that siberian kid - or ukrainian - wherever he is from, on the world stage against a top opponent because it is obvious that they are struggling to set the PPV world on fire..... and you win now, to earn later, right?

10 million would setup his kids for life, and if Golovkin was 100% confident then he COULD have taken that fight..... so there is no way that Canelo knew for sure Golovkin would refuse that fight

I don't know how you can say "if he murked Jacobs he would not be fighting Canelo"..... because Golovkin could have taken that fight twice already

                • I agree. If Jacobs got stretched, Canelo wouldn't be getting in the ring.

                  • I agree and it explains a lot. I think GGG could have flattened jacobs at any time
