  • Comments Thread For: Mikey Garcia Calling For Miguel Cotto Fight Explained

A few days ago, more than a handful of eyebrows were raised when Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) took to social media and called for a fight with Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs). Garcia, who holds the WBC lightweight title, moved up to 140-pounds in July to win a twelve round unanimous decision over Adrien Broner, who fought as high as 147-pounds.

Then he can go back to 140 where his power is decent at best. Great idea, Mikey.

Cotto should take it. Cotto should win comfortably via KO. A great way to say adios to boxing.

Whoever is comparing Ruiz to Cotto is high on something!... Mikey is too small, has to go up 2 divisions. Cotto can really hurt him!

If Mikey does win it just goes to show how old Cotto is. Nothing against Mikey but we got weight classes for a reason.

That does not sound like a good idea.

Cotto is old, it just depends how much he has to drain to make 147... but I'd assume he can still make the weight pretty comfortably and still has a ton of thud behind his punches.

I don't think this would be an Oscar vs. Manny situation. Cotto is still pretty pliable to make welterweight, I think.

I think Mikey was around 152 lbs against Broner, however, I'm not sure, if there was an unofficial weigh-in on fight night. Cotto is slightly above 160 lbs, so he's basically a big welter. I don't think Mikey is out of his mind. Cotto is bigger, but not by as much as it looks on paper. I would like to see that fight, but Cotto has nothing to win here. If they make it happen, I say Mikey is game for 6-7 rounds, maybe is up on points, but Cotto will start to put the heat on him late and probably stop him in 10 or 11 rounds.
