  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: The UFC is The Main Enemy of Boxing

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum was never a big fan of the Ultimate Fighting Championship [UFC] - which is the top organization in mixed martial arts. Arum and UFC President Dana White have been engaged in a feud and traded words for several years. Most recently, Arum was very critical of last month's pay-per-view which featured UFC superstar Conor McGregor making his professional debut as a boxer, against a returning Floyd Mayweather Jr. White went wild over Arum's comments and verbally erupted in the direction of the veteran promoter.

I disagree with Arum on most things but he's right about this.

Boxing is boxings worst enemy and it isnt even close.

People can and do follow both sports. Promoters can and do use the other sport to plug their own.

        UFC and boxing can coexist.

Its boxing that continually shoots itself in the foot at every turn

            Agreed

To much marinating and too many belts

Boxing would be a lot better if there was one belt in each weight . The best would have to fight the best to get to the number one spot

Not a UFC fan but the way they match make is a better system imo

Network politics and the egos involved pizz me off too.

Other than that I still love the sport

The saddest part about the whole thing is that the only "working together" that Arum is interested in is everyone doing exactly as he wants, fighting under his banner for whatever he feels like paying folks.

Arum will never and one of his guys out to fight under another promoters banner, yet he has the gall to *****.

Arum sold ESPN a bill of bull****, ESPN turned around and gave him 16 dates, and Arum is coming to terms with the reality that he can't deliver what he promised without help (an issue made more existential to his company after the splitting from HBO).

Arum is salty that he didnt think to invest in MMA in the 90s. He could be controlling the UFC now and taking 50%+ purse cuts like danna white instead of the 30% he takes in boxing. Hes jealous that someone rips off their fighters more than him, that is his claim to fame and he doesnt like being beaten at it.
